On August 28th, Slovenian deathcore band Within Destruction announced their signing with Sumerian Records while also releasing their new single titled “Demon Child”. Formerly under Ultra Heavy Records, the band slightly departs from their usual style of heavy breakdowns and unclean vocals with their new single, and successfully blends their deathcore roots with both clean and unclean vocals and more electronic-sounding instrumentals.
“Demon Child” explores an unhealthy relationship between the narrator and someone else, who only makes the narrator feel pain rather than love. The narrator tries to escape this person but almost feels trapped, feeling that the hurt they caused will always remain. The song captures the raw emotion of the narrator who feels consumed by the pain this person caused, feeling as if they are on the brink of insanity and likens these feelings to a burning flame.
“Before I even started writing lyrics, I’ve listened to the song a couple of times and immediately knew the final words of the chorus would be 'Demon Child,' which also ended up being the title of our second single. “We’ve had a lot of fun during the preproduction of the song which is getting released pretty much in the initially envisioned idea. This time we went with a fast-paced song built around a catchy singalong chorus with a blegh breakdown as a cherry on top. The only funny thing about this song is the fact that it was supposed to be without a breakdown, but while we were in the studio tracking the song, we found a place for it at the last minute and we think it works really well.” - Guitarist Howard Fang and drummer Luka Vezzosi
Within Destruction will be supporting GHØSTKID on their Hollywood Suicide Tour 2024, which will be Within Destruction’s first time touring Europe in 2 years.
