We Came As Romans have already been having a great year. They have released three new singles and announced their forthcoming album “ALL IS BEAUTIFUL… BECAUSE WE ARE DOOMED” due out on August 22nd. On July 30th, they released the fourth single off the upcoming album “where did you go?”. You can watch the music video for the new single here!
Dave Stephens commented on the new single, stating, "Where did you go was one of the final songs we wrote for the album, and it came together in a way that just felt special. From the first few notes, we knew it had a completely different energy— way moodier than anything we'd done so far on the record. Where Did You Go? is about the haunting feeling of being left without answers. It's about losing a part of yourself. When we wrote it, we were reflecting on a version of ourselves we felt disconnected from—the parts of ourselves we used to believe in, the ones with better habits, more clarity, more hope. The production instantly brought me back to nights of driving around at night when I was younger and gave me this overwhelming feeling of nostalgia for a time when life felt a lot simpler. The nostalgia is real, but so is the growth that comes with asking yourself those hard questions.”
As a fan of the band for a long time, there is a part of me that always hears their late singer, Kyle Pavone, in the songs that deal with grief. I know that Stephens did not mention him when speaking about the single, but there is a part of me that always thinks of him first and foremost. It’s hard not to.
This song is so hauntingly beautiful. There are no real harsh vocals and screams, and you can hear the raw emotion in Stephens' voice. You just want to go up and give the entire band a hug. Hopefully this is the last single off the album, as there are already four, but these four songs help broadcast the sheer range that We Came As Romans has as a band. I am so excited for this album and I cannot wait for this album.
We Came as Romans are currently headlining the Bad Luck tour, with Johnny Booth, After the Burial, and Currents supporting them. I was able to attend the New York City date, and they debuted three new songs off the upcoming album. So if you are thinking about hitting this tour, make sure that you do if you want to hear some new songs before the album comes out.
