On July 11, Columbus, Ohio metalcore band Verkari dropped their latest single, “Devourer” through Punkerton Records. It is the second single from them this year after April’s “Show Me Your Teeth.”
The band also released a lyric video to accompany the song, which can be seen here.
Formed in 2020 by vocalist Quil Seawright, Verkari has emerged as heavy hitters onto the Ohio metal stage with the live shows to back it up since their 2023 debut single “Capsize.” The band consists of Seawright, Ryan Bradford on bass, Mark Gard on guitar, and Johnathan Stevens on drums.
Lyrically, “Devourer” rips into those liars, cheaters, and downright bad people that make life just that much more annoying. Musically, the song is driven by Gard’s tight, djent inspired riffs and Gard’s unabated drumming.
Verkari pulls much of their sonic inspiration from bands such as Knocked Loose, Wage War, and Polaris, and that influence can be felt in “Devourer.” According to Seawright, the song is the band’s heaviest yet.
“Devourer is our heaviest track to date. It really encompasses the feeling and thoughts you have when you’ve had enough of people’s bullshit.”
-Quil Seawright (vocalist)
