The Dirty Nil, a rock band from Ontario, have announced their fifth studio album, The Lash, set for release on Friday, July 25, 2025, via Dine Alone Records and Civilians. The album marks a raw, back-to-basics shift in their sound, recorded with producer and front of house engineer Vince Solveri. The lead single, “Gallop of the Hounds,” released April 18th, is described as an urgent, high-energy track that sets the tone for the album’s themes of self-reckoning and the illusion of revenge.
Vocalist/guitarist Luke Bentham drew inspiration for the album from forgotten art during a visit to the Vatican, particularly a bronze relief titled The Horrors of War, depicting two men fighting over a knife. This imagery influenced the album's intense and visceral aesthetic. The band collaborated with UK designer Jack Sabbat to create artwork that complements the album's brutal themes, reminiscent of punk-flyer styles and medieval torture imagery.
The ten-track album delves into topics such as music industry challenges and personal relationship struggles, with drummer Kyle Fisher referring to it as Bentham’s “therapy record.” The Dirty Nil will be touring the United States with Heart Attack Man in June, July, and August.
