On June 3rd, 2025- hard-rock heavyweights Gaveldown has made their return with their brand new single "Hearts Run Dark". This track marks as their first release since their album 'Earth to Ash', which was released in October 2018. This song is the title track for their upcoming album. This year has been a great year for music since artists have been making a comeback, so this is great news to celebrate.
Gaveldown is a four-piece band based in Long Island, New York, who formed in 2002 and entered the scene in 2009 with their debut album 'Chosen The Pawn'. The band currently comprises of Dan Ferguson (lead guitarist), Kevin Beasley (vocalist, rhythm guitarist), Anthony Citrano (bass), and lastly Cip Griffin (drums). "Hearts Run Dark" was mixed and produced by lead guitarist Dan Ferguson who is the owner of a recording studio company known as Riff Haven Audio; which resides in Levittown, New York. If you are looking for a professional producer, I would definitely go to him. The band is set to release their third studio album 'Hearts Run Dark', which is set to release in August 5th, 2025. The band shares, "This is the band's most complete record. There's been so much change and growth for the guys in the band since the last album, both personally and artistically, and I think it is very evident in this new music. The album is a winding road of brutality and beauty from beginning to end. "Hearts Run Dark" is the title track and first single of three to be released prior to the album, dropping on August 5th. Our second single "Wasteland" is set for release Tuesday, June 24th."
From the very beginning of the track, the opening riff honestly gave me the chills because of the mood it sets listeners in. It was very haunting and melodic and that is something that really draws listeners to the music. The track sets an anthem of emotional descent and dives into the themes of mental health, escaping the toxicity you once have faced in your life; whether it was a friendship, romantic relationship, family, etc. Coming from a personal experience, I've been in a situation where I have had close friends who ultimately betrayed me and I've let them slide numerous times until I decided to put my foot down and escaped that emotional numbness. Production wise to the track, Gaveldown knows how to throw down riffs and instrumentally, I was left blown away. The combination of the cleans mixed with some screams and the eerie guitar texture really gives the song some depth. For some reason, this track kind of gives me some nostalgia with how the vocals are with the instrumentals. This would be music I would listen to growing up while playing Tony Hawk pro skater or one of the Dragonball games as a kid. Overall, I would say this song is truly a masterpiece and I cannot wait to hear what this band has to offer next.
