Oklahoma-based alternative rock band Downward made an exciting announcement: a surprise album, Downward (LP2), is now available for purchase and streaming. This is their first full-length album release since their 2018 self-titled record. Stream the album HERE or purchase HERE.
In the new album, Downward pushes the boundaries of the rock genre and their own personal artistic style. While still retaining core elements of their sound, such as influences from post-hardcore and a melancholic yet heavy feeling, the band has proven that they are not afraid to expand their sound into new territory and not be confined to a specific genre. One of the standout tracks from the album is “Perfect Food”, which is a sonically and lyrically emotional track, reminiscent of post-hardcore and emo.
“‘Perfect Food’ is one of the last couple of songs we wrote for the album, and in the grand scheme of the record, it might be the most ‘business as usual’ song for us. In the back of my head I knew we needed a song like this in the tracklist somewhere,” guitarist and vocalist Drew Richardson explains. “We played through it a couple of times, and I just got hit with this “Oh yeah, I’m definitely in the right band” feeling. It really changed my mood and gave me a bit of confidence when we went in to record.”
The band and Kendal Osborne recorded Downward (LP2), and also collaborated with Dave Collis and Sean Hallock from Slow Mass (IL). The record was mixed and mastered by Corey Coffman from Gleemer (CO).
