Hold onto your headphones, metalheads! Dead Icarus, the brainchild of former Atreyu frontman and Gold-selling artist Alex Varkatzas, is back with a vengeance. Teaming up with Gabe Mangold of Enterprise Earth and the percussive powerhouse Brandon Zackey, this trio is ready to rock your world with their latest single, 'The Unconquerable.'
The band has just dropped a visualizer for the track, and it’s as epic as you’d expect. But wait, there’s more! Keep your eyes peeled for details on their debut album with MNRK HEAVY, coming soon to a speaker near you.
“It’s been over a year since we released our debut single ‘Sellout,’” says Varkatzas. “As we prepare for our upcoming tour with Nekrogoblikon, we wanted to celebrate by dropping a brand new banger ‘The Unconquerable.’ This song showcases our affection for Cradle of Filth-style, atmospheric black metal merged with the elements of metalcore and hardcore that we love. Lyrically, the song is about a feeling that is un-nameable and stronger than all else, something that propels you forward almost unconsciously with unrelenting drive and purpose. We hope you enjoy the track and ominous visualizer crafted by Riivata Visuals.”
Dead Icarus is more than just a band; it’s a sonic force of nature. With Varkatzas’ raw vocals, Mangold’s shredding guitar riffs, and Zackey’s thunderous drumming, they create a sound that’s both ferocious and finely tuned. Their music is a testament to their unwavering dedication and technical prowess, delivering everything from blistering solos to bone-crushing blast beats.
Fans of Varkatzas will remember him as the co-founder and original frontman of the legendary Southern California metalcore band Atreyu. After two decades of chart-topping hits, Gold albums, and sold-out tours, he embarked on a new musical journey in 2020. Enter Gabe Mangold, the guitar virtuoso from Enterprise Earth. The duo clicked instantly, and their collaboration led to the release of the critically acclaimed Ad infernum EP in 2024. As Revolver magazine put it, “Fans of old-school Atreyu will definitely enjoy.”
Get ready to catch Dead Icarus live this September as they hit the road with Enterprise Earth and Nekrogoblikon. And if you can’t make it, don’t worry—more worldwide tours are planned for 2025 and beyond. Stay tuned, because Dead Icarus is just getting started!
