Coheed and Cambria are a post-hardcore band from Nyack, New York, comprised of four members: Claudio Sanchez (vocals, guitar), Travis Stever (lead guitar), Josh Eppard (drums), and Zach Cooper (bass). On May 8th, they released a stand alone track, "The Joke", with a music video to accompany it. The track comes from the Vaxus II LP sessions, and the release was paired with a remixed and remastered version of 2011 track "Deranged". The band is offering two different colored 7” vinyl versions through www.coheedandcambria.com
“The meaning behind ‘The Joke’, is basically, if you need a punching bag, I’ll be that guy.”
-Claudio Sanchez
The song skillfully mixes electronic pop sounds and smooth, clean vocals with some classic hardcore aspects such as heavy basslines, and distorted guitars, providing a very unique sound to the overall song. The different synth motifs and unique calibration to each tone weaves a unique sci-fi sounding atmosphere to the overall song, which pairs nicely with the music video. The video features one of Coheed and Cambria's The Armory Wars universe's characters, "Al the Killer" who is being tormented by a prankster who always manages to slip out of his grasp. And if you really enjoy the story of the Armory Wars, Sanchez' sci-fi comic series, The Amory Wars: No World for Tomorrow, is in stores via Boom! Studios and can be found at local comic books here or purchased online here.
The new music is simply set up for Coheed and Cambria's summer tour plans. In July and August the band is set to co-headline Primus, then will go on to support Incubus in the late summer/early fall. In October, Coheed and Cambria will headline Furnace Fest and then appear at When We Were Young Festival, where they will perform their 2005 album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness in full.
