Citizen Soldier has exploded in the last year. Last April, I saw them on their tour with Smash Into Pieces that was in a tiny tavern venue. I fell in love and had no idea they were gonna dominate the festival season. Frontman Jake, wrote the band’s first track based on his experience in a mental hospital. He later went on to become a licensed therapist. He is a huge advocate for mental health. Other bands don’t touch on it quite so literally and it makes all the difference to know someone feels the way you do. Jake also has a very unique, beautiful voice.
June 5th, 2024- the band released a new single entitled “ Everybody Hates You” touches on feelings of inadequacy and feeling like no-one likes you. I love that he is fearless about sharing his struggles and does it with some of the catchiest tracks I’ve heard in a while. The band oscillates between slower more melodic tracks and and harder more intense tracks. “Everybody Hates you” is on the harder side for the band and yet still retains the bands ’ signature cathartic theme.
