Long Beach, CA based underground Rock band CARSEX has a high-energy sound that perfectly embodies their name. Their music is raw, gritty, and intense, living up to the hype that your friends promised.
Their latest single and video "Crooked Canvas" is set to hit the airwaves soon. Produced by Steve Evetts, known for his work with bands such as Sepultura, Alesana, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, the track is a powerful statement against blind consumerism and blind loyalty to political parties. The song begins with a spoken word warning, accompanied by an intense guitar riff and a pulsating drumbeat, before erupting into a relentless sonic onslaught.
Singer Nigel Burk explained that "Crooked Canvas" symbolizes the way people are deceived and misled, and how they passively accept and consume whatever is presented to them. It reflects on various aspects of life such as politics, religion, consumer products, and the influence of marketing. Nigel emphasized his strong aversion to consumerism and the impact it has on society.
Bassist Jeremy Schott mentioned that the music video was filmed by Brad Walther and Jason Lazo at Big Walrus Productions in Long Beach. They had previously worked together on the band's last video, "Your Generation". The video was shot on a church set to align with the theme of the song, which revolves around the public being influenced and directed in their thoughts and consumption. Steven Burhoe of Plague Productions took charge of editing the video.
About CARSEX
The band CARSEX was born out of the ashes of Long Beach music scene bands Damned Age, Black Velvet Brigade, and Red River Massacre. Comprising five seasoned music veterans, CARSEX has been a mainstay in the vibrant music scene of Orange County, California for over a decade.
These musicians initially crossed paths while performing with their respective bands in the local circuit, gradually forming strong friendships over time. When their former bands disbanded or underwent significant changes, they collectively decided to embark on a new musical journey together, giving rise to CARSEX in 2018.
Drawing inspiration from legendary punk acts such as Circle Jerks, Black Flag, and The Germs, along with a touch of Danzig, Fu Manchu, and Queens of the Stone Age, CARSEX has crafted a distinctive sound that resonates with raw energy and unapologetic intensity. Their music embodies a potent blend of hard-hitting punk and gritty rock influences, delivering a sonic experience that is both powerful and unapologetically loud.
CARSEX has previously released 2 EPs. The first EP, released in 2019, was titled CarSex. This was followed by the 2020 EP, which featured the singles "Your Generation" and "Lovesick". Fans will be excited to know that a new EP is currently in the finalization stage and is scheduled for release later this summer.
CARSEX is a highly energetic live band, and they are currently scheduling shows to promote the release of "Crooked Canvas" and their upcoming EP. Their impressive list of opening acts includes Stillwell (Fieldy from Korn's Band), The Obsessed, Mondo Generator, Suicide Silence, Unsane, Dead Poet's Society, Narcoleptic Youth, and O'Zorn!
