On January 13th 2026, rock and roll artist Yungblud spoke out on stage in Melbourne Australia about the current state of Iran and their need for support worldwide. During the statement, he brought attention to the protestors by saying “This revolution is led by the women, and for four days they’ve had their internet cut off, their electricity cut off, they are in darkness.” Yungblud then went on to encourage his fans in attendance stating “They are asking for our voice… Speak! Shout! Post! Because they are fighting for freedom.”
This isn’t the first time he has spoken out in support of Iranian protestors. On September 24th 2022 at Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware Yungblud addressed a crowd of over 50,000 people about 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, AKA Jina, an Iranian woman who died at the hands of Iran’s morality police. She was arrested on September 14th , 2022 for not wearing her hijab in accordance with the government standards but was pronounced dead on September 16th 2022 after falling into a coma and supposedly “suffering a heart attack”. It was later released via eye witness reports that Mahsa Amini received severe beatings from law enforcement and sustained significant head trauma while in police custody. So, it is believed that she succumbed to her injuries and that it is the real cause of death secondary to police brutality.

Mahsa Amini’s devastating death ignited a massive anti-government movement called “Woman, Life, Freedom” that challenges the mandatory hijab laws and demands an end to oppression and discrimination against Iranian Women that has been in place since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The protests included women demonstrators removing their hijab’s and publicly cutting their hair as acts of defiance and protest. In the months following Mahsa’s death, it was documented that by December of 2022 over 476 Iranian protestors across the country were shot and killed by the deadly force of Iranian security forces. It was also reported by Amnesty International that those same Iranian security forces shot live ammunition into mass crowds and killed protestors by beating them with batons. In 2020, two representatives of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that improperly veiled women should be made to feel “unsafe” but later retracted their statements by saying that their original one was misunderstood by the public.
The death of Mahsa “Jina” Amini and the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movements spoke to Yungblud on a heartfelt level and he is now speaking for her and all of the others screaming for their freedom in Iran, bringing awareness to the cause. The “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement continues to touch tender hearts globally and people with such a large platform, like Yungblud, are being vocal about it, urging everyone to speak out loudly against the lack of freedom for women in Iran and to not only post about it but to also be a part of their rising voices.
Yungblud is a rockstar truly ahead of his time and we look forward to seeing his future endeavors both career based and not. Check the links below for live footage of Yungblud in 2022 and 2026 speaking about both Mahsa Amini and the current state of Iran and its protesters. Speak her name and never forget what she stood for. In the words of Yungblud, “Nobody is free until were all fucking free!”
