Anthrax Get Their Own Coffee Ahead of Cursum Perficio

The thrash metal veterans have teamed with Dark Matter Coffee for a limited-edition blend arriving ahead of their first album in a decade. Anthrax are giving fans another way to fuel up for Cursum Perficio.

The New York metal veterans have partnered with Dark Matter Coffee on a limited-edition collaboration, Dark Matter Coffee x Anthrax "Cursum Perficio," timed to the September 18 release of the band's highly anticipated 12th studio album via Megaforce Records.

The collaboration combines two very different forms of caffeine and aggression: Anthrax's long-awaited return with a new full-length record and a specialty coffee blend built around Central American beans.

Dark Matter Coffee describes the foundation of the "Cursum Perficio" blend as a washed process Catuai from Nicaragua, roasted at a higher heat to emphasize caramelized sugars and a toasted, sweet and nutty character. Coffee from the Pacas Family in El Salvador is added to the blend, bringing Bourbon and Pacas beans from several farms in the Santa Ana region. Those beans are processed at the Cafe Tuxpal mill, with chocolate notes and a citrus finish emerging as the coffee cools.

The limited-edition release will be offered in multiple formats, including 12-ounce bags of whole-bean coffee and several grind options: drip, espresso, press pot and pour over. An eight-pack of Coffee Cold will also be available.

For Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante, the collaboration fits naturally alongside his previous Dark Matter Coffee blends.

"With Cursum Perficio, we have a blend of Central American washed coffees from Nicaragua and El Salvador that produce a piping hot mug of chocolatey and nutty notes balanced by a sweet citrus finish," Benante says. "This blend sits nicely next to my Schism and the Devil You Know blends from Dark Matter."

The timing isn't accidental. Cursum Perficio represents one of the biggest moments in Anthrax's recent history: It's their first studio album since 2016's For All Kings, which debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200.

The album's title comes from Latin and can be translated as "My journey has come to an end," "My journey is over" or "I complete my journey." Given the amount of time that has passed since For All Kings, the title carries obvious weight.

Anthrax-Scott Ian, Charlie Benante, Frank Bello, Joey Belladonna and Jonathan Donais-began working in earnest on Cursum Perficio in 2022, recording at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in Los Angeles. Produced by Jay Ruston and Anthrax, the album finds the band drawing from its extensive history while continuing to expand the boundaries of its established sound.

The result, according to the band, is a record that is aggressive, intense and deeply connected to what has made Anthrax one of metal's most enduring acts.

The album also arrives with an unusually extensive selection of physical editions. Fans can choose from standard CD and multiple vinyl variants, including black double LP, red zoetrope, purple zoetrope, lilac, white, red ripple and a red-orange-yellow pressing. Several editions also feature pop-up gatefold packaging, while select versions are exclusive to retailers and outlets including Target, Amazon, Metal Injection, Talk Shop Live and independent retailers.

After spending years building one of the most recognizable catalogs in American metal, Anthrax are entering this new chapter with both a new album and a fresh set of ways for fans to experience it.

And apparently, one of those ways involves coffee.

The band's Cursum Perficio campaign will soon move from record stores and streaming services to the road as well. Anthrax have announced North American dates beginning September 25 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, followed by another Los Angeles performance on September 27, a September 29 appearance at the Alamodome in San Antonio and an October 2 date at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City.

After a decade between studio albums, Anthrax aren't easing back into the conversation. Cursum Perficio is putting the band back in the spotlight-and they're apparently making sure fans have something strong in their mugs when it happens.
