We Are Loving 2Hollis’ ‘style’

You may have seen the name 2Hollis circulating the digital sphere, sometimes being referred to as the ‘White Tiger’ or my personal favourite ‘A Disciple of Skrillex’. Regardless of what you’ve heard him be called, the LA-based Singer and Producer has been busy taking the scene by storm. Earlier in January, he closed out his nearly sold-out Leg Two Tour, dropped a new single called 'afraid’ with his support act Nate Sib, and then flew out to take on Laneway Fest in February.

For 2Hollis, it doesn’t seem as if his career is slowing down anytime soon, especially since he just put out his most recent single style via Interscope Records.

Before the track even hit streaming, leaked clips of the chorus and verse had been circulating his fanbase online. 2Hollis himself had played the unreleased at select shows on tour. The small exposure to style had fans practically begging for 2Hollis to drop the track. Lucky for them on Tuesday, the teaser announcement was posted. Sandwiched between an Instagram Photodump that had the caption “friday. video” were the now well known lyrics- “I Like Your // Style”- confirming the release of the song.

style follows a simpler production style and overall layout compared to 2Hollis’ popular works. The track has a leading dense bass for the foundation, with layers of glitchy and sliding synths layered on top. Although 2Hollis is no stranger to recycling verses within his songs, which is a typical theme within EDM, style consists of only a single chorus and one long verse.

The two parts contrast each other, with the chorus being sung while the verse is rapped with a lower, near sleazy tone. 2Hollis' tonal range fits with the lyrics as they depict this narcissistic, flashy, and famous approach to life. Though it is unclear whether the substance of the lyrics is exaggerated for effect or if they reflect how 2Hollis is truly feeling about his life of fame, it doesn't seem to matter, as we're definitely liking his style either way.

The music video for style leans into that nonchalant attractiveness people have been swooning for recently. 2Hollis is clearly showing off his physique throughout the video, drawing attention to his torso by not only the camera placement, but due to the shirt he is only half wearing. The few times we do see 2Hollis enter the frame, it is only for a brief moment, then we're back to body again. I'm curious if this stylistic choice is meant to allude to the lyric “Love when you staring at me”, but nothing has been confirmed thus far.

If you live in Asia or Europe, 2Hollis could be playing a city near you. You can check for tickets here. He will also be making an appearance on Day 1 (Thursday) of Bonaroo this June.
