On April 26th, 2025- The Devil Wears Prada went on Spring Break but brought the metalcore to Spokane, Washington's The Sodo with special guests ERRA, Kingdom Of Giants and Acres. Traveling has always been in my blood. I have always loved it, ever since I was younger. And being able to travel to do something I love? Even better! So I packed up my car and drove across the state.
This had been my first time at the Showbox Sodo as a photographer, but I have been there as a patron many times. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. It was the most chill I've ever felt coming into a show. As the venue filled with people, the energy began to buzz and grow and change into something almost palpable.
While waiting for doors to open, it was unsure if Kingdom of Giants would be in attendance as their van broke down, but fast forward a couple hours, and it would be confirmed they made it their performance sounded amazing.
First up was Acres, a band hailing from Portsmouth, United Kingdom. The band currently consists of frontman Ben Lumber on vocals, Alex Freeman on guitar, Jack Rogers on bass, and lastly Konnor Bracher-Walsh on drums. They are set to release their third studio album 'The Host' in May of 2025 via Solid State Records. Their 2019 debut album 'Lonely World' shot them into the stratosphere, and was filled with melody and melancholy that was all blended beautifully into a new sound that would take them to new heights.
They started off their set with "A Different Shade of Misery" from their EP 'What It's Like To Feel Worthless', and from the first words out of Lumber's mouth, the crowd was hooked and immediately a mosh pit formed. I'd never listened to them before, but I found myself adding every single song of theirs to my playlist on the way home. They really do have something special, something that keeps them unique in the ever growing genre.
Next up was Kingdom Of Giants, who made it to the show by any means necessary. When they announced that they would, in fact be there; it caused the crowd to lose their minds in the best way possible. Kingdom Of Giants is a metalcore band based in Sacramento, California that was formed in 2011. They are currently signed under Sharptone Records and consist of members Dana Willax (vocals), Red Martin (guitar), Max Bremer (guitar), Julian Perez (keys), Levi Norris (bass), and lastly Truman Berlin (drums). Kingdom Of Giants have unleashed an EP in 2024 titled 'Bleeding Star' via Sharptone Records. The record consists of well-known tracks such as "Asphalt", "Wasted Space" and many more.
To start off their set, they brought the heat to the stage with "Asphalt", which is the first track off their latest EP 'Bleeding Star'. When the first note of "Asphalt" hit, I could feel the energy explode. They kept the energy up for their entire set and performed a lot of their latest songs. During their set, most of their set was comprised of songs from their EP 'Bleeding Star', as well as older tracks such as "Night Shift", "Wayfinder", "Bleach". Kingdom Of Giants is another band that I haven't really had the chance to listen to, but I can now safely say that I'm a big fan. If you are a fan of Like Moths To Flames, Aviana, Silent Planet, you will definitely find Kingdom Of Giants phenomenal.
Now it was time for ERRA hit the stage next. All I can say is the crowd went feral once these guys took the stage. ERRA is a progressive metalcore band based in Alabama that was formed in 2009. The band currently consists of members JT Cavey (vocals), Jesse Cash (rhythm guitar, clean vocals), Clint Tustin (lead guitar), Conor Hesse (bass), and drummer Alex Ballew. The band is currently signed under UNFD and has put out a new album titled 'CURE' in April, 2025. Before chaos went into place, Cash hit the stage first and began playing the intro riff to "Slow Sour Bleed", from their album 'CURE'. For me, personally, ERRA doesn't have a bad song, and the setlist they performed just confirms that.
Throughout their set, they have performed powerful tracks such as "Gungrave", "Hourglass", "Cure" and several other tracks. Clint and Cash on the guitar make the perfect duo with how talented they both are. I've had the chance to see ERRA multiple times in different kinds of situations and they never fail to put on an amazing show. Cavey is a great frontman, and he makes sure the crowd is involved the whole time he's up on that stage. They ended the set with their top hit "Snowblood", which is one of my favorite songs from them. If you have not yet taken the chance to catch this band live, you are missing out.
Now it is time for the main act to take the stage. It was time for metalcore legends The Devil Wears Prada to take the stage. Once The Devil Wears Prada hit the stage, the crowd was at full capacity and the sound of applause and screaming was almost deafening. The Devil Wears Prada is a metalcore band based in Ohio, formed in 2005. The band currently consists of members vocalist Mike Hranica, clean vocalist and guitarist Jeremy DePoyester, guitarist Kyle Sipress, Jonathan Gangering on keyboards, bassist Mason Nagy and drummer Giuseppe Capolupo. They are currently signed to Solid State Records. Following the release of their single "Ritual", the band has recently unveiled a new single on April 17th of this year titled "For You" via Solid State Records.
The Devil Wears Prada kicked the night off with throwback track "Mammoth" from their album 'Dead Throne', which was released back in 2011. Throughout their set, the band has performed top hit tracks such as "Salt", "Chemical", "Broken", "Ritual" and many more. The first of three back to back tours, the boys kept the energy up with a tease to the Seattle crowd that they shouldn't come back because nobody would want them there. That was met by an even louder response from the crowd. I saw The Devil Wears Prada when they came to Spokane on their last tour, so it was amazing to be able to see them again in a similar venue. With eight studio albums, they seem to be unstoppable. The mix of screaming by Hranica blending with the clean vocals from rhythm guitarist Jeremy DePoyster, their sound is something that can't be replicated. To close the night off, the band walked off stage and came back on to perform "Hey John, What's Your Name Again?" off their 2007 album 'Plagues'. Hearing the track live brought so much nostalgia and let's just say, the pit was an absolute warzone. The Devil Wears Prada walked off stage and fans were left in so much joy and I was so joyful seeing the looks on everyone's faces.
