The Cure North America Tour Makes Its Final Stop At A Sold Out Irving Plaza

ERRA makes the final stop of The Cure North America Tour at a sold out Irving Plaza in New York City featuring support from Make Them Suffer, Void Of Vision and Novelists.

Fans piled into Irving Plaza after standing on a line that stretched over a block to catch the first band of the evening. Coming from Paris, France is metalcore band Novelists. Novelists currently consist of vocalist Camille Contreras, guitarists Florestan Durand and Pierre Danel, bassist Nicolas Delestrade and drummer Amado Durand. The band was founded by the Durand brothers and creates metalcore music that’s heavily inspired by progressive metal and didn’t guitar riffs. The group kicked off their set with “Lost Cause” from their 2022 album 'Déjà Vu'. The song started off with Contreras gracing the crowd with clean vocals that led into the masterful chorus. F. Durand and Danel showed off their skills with insane guitar riffs that ended the song. Novelists on stage performance is energetic and some of the best you could see live. The whole group was jumping and spinning around on stage getting the crowd involved. What caught me by surprise when I was photographing during the first three songs, Contreras found some coins laying around on the stage, so she handed me eleven cents mid way of their performance. I thought it was absolutely hilarious and so many people around me asked me what happened after their set was over. A packed room cheered for the band one more time after they left the stage paving the way for another international band to take the stage.

Up next was metalcore band Void Of Vision. Void Of Vision comes all the way from Melbourne Australia. The band consists of vocalist Jack Bergin, guitarists James McKendrick and Mitch Fairlie and drummer George Pfaender. Void Of Vision is currently signed to UNFD and we’re last in New York in October 2023 supporting Invent Animate. Void Of Vision has also supported metalcore giants such as August Burns Red and soon to support Parkway Drive later in the year. Void Of Vision started their set with their latest single “Empty” which was released on April 19th. Bergin walked on stage and demanded the whole room get off their feet. He began the opening line to the song and when the guitar riffs dropped the room went insane. Flashing bright lights flashed and the band was on their feet along with the crowd. Void Of Vision is incredibly talented in transitioning from heavy energetic into slow and melodic. Bergin screams and clean vocals standout in their live performance. Alongside him Fairle and McKendrick show their talents through breakdowns and catchy riffs. The band knows how to get the crowd involved as they are always demanding the crowd to stay energetic and they didn’t fail all tour. Void Of Vision gained plenty of new fans and set the tone for another Australian band to tear the roof off the place.

Stepping up to the plate next was Make Them Suffer. Make Them Suffer is an Australian metalcore band from Perth. The band is signed to Sharptone Records and currently consists of lead vocalist Sean Hamaris, keyboardist/vocalist Alex Reade, guitarist Nick McLernon, bassist Jaya Jeffrey and drummer Jordan Mather. Make Them Suffer gained plenty of recognition after supporting Bad Omens and Parkway Drive in the last two years. Make Them Suffer is known for their brutally heavy sound along with screams from Hamaris that are complimented by the angelic clean vocals from Reade. All of that is on display in the trio of singles released over the last year. These singles would be “Doomswitch”, “Ghost Of Me” and most recently “Epitaph”. Now amassing over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Make Them Suffer is becoming one of the premiere attractions to any tour lineup as people are eager to catch their destructive performance live.

Make Them Suffer kicked off their set with “Ghost Of Me”. This song was released in May 11th, 2023 and has been their opening song to their most recent tour setlists. "Ghost Of Me" puts all of the special aspects of Make Them Suffer on display as it features Hamaris unleashing near deathcore style vocals that lead into the heavenly post chorus sung by Reade. This has the whole crowd singing and as it ended Hamaris returned with his brutal vocals. The crowd was amped up. The level of energy was undeniable as the crowd wants more. Hamaris demanded as many crowd surfers as possible for their song “Erase Me” from their 2020 album 'How To Survive A Funeral'. This song has been a staple to their careers and it brings the most out of the crowd. Any fan of this band knows the lyrics. It's undeniably catchy and anyone who sings it can resonate with the meaning of the song. The set wrapped up after another crushing breakdown from their last song “Doomswitch” and the crowd wanted more but unfortunately their set time as up and it was time for the last set of the whole tour.

It was time for ERRA to bless the stage. ERRA is an American metalcore band from Birmingham, Alabama that formed in 2009. The band currently consists of lead vocalist J.T. Cavey, guitarist/vocalist Jesse Cash, guitarist Clint Tustin, bassist Conor Hesse and drummer Alex Ballew. On August 27th, 2020 they announced they signed with UNFD and released one of their hit songs “Snowblood” which would be the lead single for their 2021 self-titled record. ERRA has supported artists such as August Burns Red, Beartooth and We Came As Romans. The band has also collaborated with artists such as PhaseOne and Courtney LaPlante, vocalist of Spiritbox. ERRA stands out among the rest with their heavy metalcore sounds that are heavily influenced by progressive metal and djent aspects. They have described their own unique style as “melodic-ambient”. ERRA has cited bands such as August Burns Red, Born Of Osiris, Misery Signals and Sasoin as major influences. The band gained more notoriety afayee supporting Bad Omens in 2023 and releasing their cover of Muse’s “Stockholm Syndrome” in 2022. All of this led up to the monumental release of their latest studio album “Cure”.

On August 16th, 2023 the band released “Pale Iris” which would become the lead single of the latest album before its announcement. It was announced on February 1st that their sixth studio album “Cure” would be releasing on April 5th. Fans all over the world raved about Cure as it appealed to people of most metal genres. It had the brutal screams for the heaviest of music listeners while having graceful cleans for the fans who like more melodic metal. The guitar work on the whole album is beloved by fans of progressive and djent as its is creative and unique while also a masterpiece to listen to. The title track “Cure” stand out the most in all these aspects. And sure enough ERRA opened the set with that song. Cavey and the rest of the band entered the stage demanding the crowd to make some noise. The whole room exploded when the first riff kicked in as the pit opened up and fans were having the time of their life. It didn’t take long for crowd surfers to start luring over the barricade. It was pure insanity as the whole room swayes in all directions. It was everything that makes metal shows standout the most out of all live music.

Fans really got the energy moving when ERRA played “Gungrave”. "Gungrave" is one of the tracks from the self titled album and it one of their best songs to play live. It starts off with rapid guitar riffs and brutal vocals from Cavey. Cash gets involved with his celestial clean vocals that anyone in the metal community recognizes. What stood out most was the song seemed to end abruptly but it was a pause that would lead into Cavey unleashing the most brutal vocals of the night. At some point in "Gungrave", I believe it was either a tour crew member or one of the other bands pulled a prank by having someone running around on stage, only wearing a towel. I was absolutely confused but I looked at my other photographer friends in that photo pit and we couldn't stop laughing. The pit looked like a warzone as metalheads went insane doing their best spin kicks. How could they not when Tustin and Cash unleashed heavy breakdowns while Ballew dropped bombs on the snares.

Cavey later tested the energy of the audience by asking them to bark multiple times throughout the night. It was a myriad of barks, woofs and arfs. What stood out a lot was the lighting production of the show. Lights that tower over the backstage of different shapes and colors. It was just as fun to watch the light show while jamming out the set. Cash asked for more crowd surfers as they approached the last two songs. The crowd went insane again as they played “Snowblood” which was a staple closing songs to their set. The band walked off the stage after the chaos but it turns out it was time for the encore.

ERRA closed out with “Skyline”, a hit song off their 2016 album 'Drift'. After one last sing along with the whole crowd, ERRA thanked the fans for their best tour yet. One final group picture was taken and that concludes the Cure North America Tour. The sky's the limit for ERRA as they have caught the attention of everyone in the metal scene. Next up is festival season in Europe as the band will play multiple festivals overseas.
