Chad Gray is bringing ‘30 Years of Madnesss’ on the Road This Fall with A Special Celebration of Three Decades of Mudvayne and Hellyeah

Chad Gray is taking the critically acclaimed “30 Years of Madnesss” career-spanning celebration back out on the road this fall after a successful initial run that saw several sell-out dates. The dynamic frontman of both Mudvayne and Hellyeah will be back out on U.S. Stages starting August 28 in Bloomington, IL, with a setlist that is designed to encompass the music that has made him an iconic figure in modern metal over the past three decades.

This fall leg of “30 Years of Madnesss” will be presented with a performance catalog that highlights his work from both Mudvayne and Hellyeah and will give fans the opportunity to immerse themselves in the catalogs that define the pinnacle of his career. Accompanying Gray will be guitarist Marcus Rafferty, who also tours with Mudvayne, as well as drummer Devin Attard, bassist Nick Villarreal and guitarist Joe Bonasorte. Butcher Babies and Devils Cut will perform as support on many of the dates across the tour.

These new dates come just on the heels of Gray’s first five “30 Years of Madnesss” shows performed this past winter that exceeded all expectations, and thus opening the door for an extension of the tour.

“The initial five ‘30 Years of Madnesss’ shows were absolutely incredible,” Gray states. “The band, the fans, the venues, all of everyone that was involved completely blows me away. And since the beginning, since day one, I’ve been wanting to bring this out to all of my fans everywhere. From here in America and out around the world. And here I have that opportunity so I’m gonna take it!”

The idea and the vision behind “30 Years of Madness" is simple. Gray hopes to get people together to celebrate the music and for a few hours let go of everything that’s going on outside the room and just enjoy themselves.

“We are gonna walk in a room, let go of life and its problems and have some fucking fun,” he exclaims. “That’s kind of been my mission statement and my mantra since day one. Let’s just have fun.”

The connection that Gray shares with his fans is something that has been a consistent through his journey dating back to the late 90s. Originating in Peoria, Illinois, in 1996, Mudvayne would become a certified hit maker with their breakthrough 2000 album, L.D. 50, moving over a half-million units in its first year. Following L.D. 50 the band would go on to release The End of All Things to Come (2002), Lost and Found (2005), The New Game (2008), and Mudvayne (2009) before they entered an extended Hiatus in 2010. 

The band would regroup for select live performances in 2021, and would drop new music in 2025 for the first time in 16 years. 

In 2006, Gray would team with guitarist Tom Maxwell to form Hellyeah alongside Mudvayne’s Greg Tribbett and the late great Pantera’s Vinnie Paul. They would go on to release a multitude of highly acclaimed albums including their final Welcome Home release in 2019, completed posthumously following the passing of Paul in 2018. The band’s last live performance took place in 2020 at ShipRocked.

“30 Years of Madnesss” acts as a live link to these two major phases of Gray’s career, as it promises to encompass the most meaningful aspects of both bands within its setlist. Offering fans who have been with him since his formative years and brand-new attendees alike a chance to hear career defining hits in a brand-new live setting.

“Heavy metal saved my life and each and every one of you have done the same for me,” Gray shares. “We save each other because we lean on each other when things are as bad in life as they can be. You all have always been there for me and I want to be there for you.”

This Fall tour dates will traverse through the Midwest, Northeast, West Coast, and the South in club and theater settings, along with festival appearances at Louder Than Life and Aftershock.

Chad Gray traded in his factory job for a life rockstar after relocating to Peoria, Illinois, to form Mudvayne in 1996. The band’s 2000 debut, L.D. 50, quickly certified gold within months of its release and announced the emergence of a formidable new force on the heavy music scene. Mudvayne’s success continued through such records as The End of All Things to Come (2002), Lost and Found (2005), The New Game (2008), and Mudvayne (2009) before the band entered an hiatus in 2010. Mudvayne’s triumphant return to the live stage in 2021 was highlighted by a release of new material in 2025, their first in more than a decade.

In 2006, Gray joined forces with guitarist Tom Maxwell to form the heavy metal juggernaut Hellyeah with guitarist Greg Tribbett and Pantera’s legend, Vinnie Paul. In 2019, Hellyeah released their final record Welcome Home, completed after the passing of Vinnie Paul in 2018, followed by one last live appearance in 2020 before the band went inactive.

Across three decades spent traversing heavy metal’s landscape with both Mudvayne and Hellyeah, Gray has carved a legacy of electrifying live shows, an iconic and distinct vocal approach, and an unwavering connection with a devoted fan base.
