Seattle’s Historic Paramount Theater Was Brought to Its Feet for Lorna Shore

ree

The Paramount Theater in and of itself is such a beautiful piece of architecture. Built in 1928, it has seen numerous acts and shows grace its stage, but none have been so hard as what Lorna Shore put on. Now, I drove across the great state of Washington just to find out for myself, and I, for one, was not disappointed in the least.

Honestly, I didn’t know what I was getting into as I’ve only been able to listen to them up until this point through spotify and not in person, but boy….boy was I so pleasantly surprised.

Taking the stage first was PeelingFlesh, the Oklahoma City based death metal band formed in 2021. Led by Damonteal Harris on vocals, Mychal Soto and Jason Parrish on guitars, and rounding out the group is Joe Pelletier on drums.  Their musical style blends elements oof slamming brutal death metal with hardcore influences. They also throw in samples of hip-hop and rope in themes including gore, murder, and the thug life.

Releasing their first studio album in 2024, they bring high energy to the stage. With songs like Human Pudding and Ghetto as Hell, they don’t shy away from otherwise touchy subjects.

Next up was the Hartford Connecticut based Shadow of Intent. They formed in 2013 as a Halo-Themed studio project by Ben Duerr and Chris Wiseman. As of now, they have not signed with a label and release all of their albums and singles independently ( except for Elegy ). Shadow of Intent is Ben Duerr as vocalist, Chris Wiseman on guitars, Andrew Monias on bass, and Bryce Butler on the drums.

They released their newest album Imperium Delirium on June 27th, 2025. Releasing albums independently is always such a tricky thing to do, but they pull it off beautifully.  They started off their set with Prepare to Die, which is actually one of my favorites from them. They brought the kind of energy that is infectious and the crowd didn’t stop even when their set ended.

The Black Dahlia Murder is a melodic death metal band hailing from Waterford, Michigan. They were formed in 2001, and their name comes from the infamous Black Dahlia Murder of 1947. The band consists of  lead vocalist Brian Eschbach, Max Lavelle on bass, Alan Cassidy on drums, and Ryan Knight on rhythm guitar. They credit bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Metallica as some of their inspirations for their unique sound.

Starting out their set with What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse the crowd roared with excitement and they pushed closer to the barricade more than I’d ever seen. The energy on the air was almost palpable and just added to the overall excitement. Brian has such a stage presence, and he always keeps it fresh and new.

And the band everyone had been eagerly waiting for, Lorna Shore took the stage like a storm and the air was electric from start to finish. Formed in 2009 in New Jersey, lead vocalist Will Ramos brings the house down with every note he belts out. On lead guitar is Adam De Micco, drummer Austin Archey, rhythm guitarist Andrew O’Connor, and bassist Michael Yager. Ramos is also known for his amazing covers of Sleep Token’s Rain and Chokehold, which are two of my favorite covers of all time.

Starting out the night with Oblivion, Ramos has an entrancing voice even when he’s screaming. Their songs are so detailed that it’s hard to not focus your attention on every detail. Sun//Eater is one of my all time favorite songs from them and it was almost ethereal to hear it live. Even watching from the back of the venue, I always felt like I was right up front with the way Will pulls the audience in with every song.

Personally, I always love it when bands come out and give the audience just a bit more to keep them hyped and Lorna Shore was no exception. Coming out to do not only one encore song but THREE ( Pain Remains I, II, and III ), it was such an amazing way to end the night ( even though I had a four hour drive ahead of me ).
