A few weeks ago, producer, singer, rapper, and visual artist Quadeca released his bossa nova-infused track “GODSTAINED”, the lead single off his upcoming project VANISHER, HORIZON SCRAPER, which is suspected to release later this year via his own label X8 Music. Earlier this week, Quadeca released the album's second single, ‘MONDAY’. You can listen to the track here.
‘MONDAY’ opens with a gorgeous string arrangement, instantly transporting listeners to somewhere serene and hazy, creating this dichotomy between the grounded and full production of ‘GODSTAINED’. This intentional choice by Quadeca, as he believes “No 2 songs on this album are alike”, a sentiment that is already proving itself to be true thus far.

‘MONDAY’ continues with classical piano melodies and flutes that rise and fall alongside Quadeca’s dulcet vocals, capturing the innate vulnerability of the track's lyrics. ‘MONDAY is meant to tell the story of a sailor learning to move on, with each verse representing a different season. Knowing this, ‘MONDAY’ becomes even more heartwrenching, especially with the lyric “Next time I’ll take you the long way”, as it comes across as the sailor attempting to delay the inevitable, to hold on whatever time he has left with this muse.
To accompany ‘MONDAY’, Quadeca directed and edited a music video for the track, expanding on the world of VANISHER, HORIZON SCRAPER. It begins with Quadeca hanging clothes out to dry on a line in a golden field, the scene possibly relating back to the lyrics “Had my heart on the line airing out with my clothes / It’s so easy to dry but it’s harder to fold”. However, it is unclear whether the visuals or the music came first.
As the atmosphere of the song transforms, the setting shifts to Quadeca sailing alone on a vast blue ocean, being forced to dry his clothes on the edge of his ship rather than tethering himself to somewhere on land. The video concludes with a still shot of both the sails and clothes motionless on the field as Quadeca walks away from them, seemingly leaving not only his life on land behind, but his life on the ocean as well, moving on from both to greater horizons.
Quadeca will be taking the world of VANISHER, HORIZON SCRAPPER on tour across North America this fall. The 23-show headlining tour will set sail on October 1st in San Francisco with visits to Seattle, Toronto, and New York before wrapping up on November 6th in Los Angeles.
