Upcoming Wilkes-Barre punk band One Step Closer recently released their newest single “Jinx” via Run For Cover Records/Civilians. “Jinx” is a high-energy track that references their hardcore roots while embracing a more alternative-rock style. Watch the music video below:

Guitarist Ross Thompson on the new music video: "I was inspired by director Andrei Tarkovsky: come up with a strange concept and make it look pretty. My goal was that if you paused the video at any moment you could print it out and hang it on your wall. Just make a pretty video with my pretty friends. This was all done within two weeks. Three days of filming (one day, one half day, then four hours) and then the rest was editing. I made the first rough draft in iMovie as the demo then my friend Layne who also shot it translated everything into Premiere. This was a group effort and fun project to work on with all the homies."

This release follows their 2024 album All You Embrace, which helped One Step Closer further skyrocket in the post-hardcore scene, and “Jinx” proves that the band will continue to make a name for themselves. They first stepped into the scene with their 2021 release This Place You Know and 2023’s Songs For The Willow, which quickly established them as one of the most promising rising hardcore bands.

Their most heartfelt and passionate work yet, singer Ryan Savitski delivers melodic yet powerful vocals accompanied by thunderous guitars on All You Embrace. Although the album leans toward a more melodic style than their previous hardcore-inspired tracks, the captivating energy remains the same.

About All You Embrace, Ryan Savitski shares: “I wanted to showcase One Step Closer in its fullest state. Every single part of the band, I wanted it to be there. I wanted us to be 100% ourselves and be as authentic to our band as we could possibly be.

Following this era, “Jinx” follows in the albums footsteps as One Step Closer continues to explore new styles within their music, combining influences from emo, hardcore, 90s alternative, and more, proving them to be a standout in the current punk and hardcore scenes.
