Of Monsters and Men Brought The Mouse Parade to Munich

On March 6th, the stage at Backstage Werk in Munich belonged to Iceland, as Of Monsters and Men and fellow national artist Rakel performed there on their The Mouse Parade European Tour.

Setting the tone for the night, Rakel’s set was atmospheric and ethereal, her beautiful vocals paired with the delicate instrumentation drawing the crowd in. Her presence was magnetic, interacting with the audience and pulling at their heartstrings by presenting the backstory of some of the songs she performed. By the time she wrapped up her set, there was a palpable sense of anticipation for what was to come next.

Once Of Monsters and Men stepped on stage, the energy in the room immediately felt ecstatic. The crowd started cheering as the first notes filled the air. The band’s dynamic performance of “Television Love” made it clear that they were ready to deliver an unforgettable show. A lovely and unexpected moment happened right after the first song, as the audience started singing “Happy Birthday” for the singer and guitarist Ragnar þórhallsson.

The show continued with a mix of fan favorites and more recent gems, which showed off the band’s signature blend of folk and indie rock. The chemistry between the band members was electric and it was clear they were feeding off the audience’s energy. Tracks like “Kamikaze” and “Styrofoam Cathedral” resonated deeply with the crowd, bringing a more intimate vibe to the set alongside “Crystals” which had the fans singing along.

As expected, one of the highlights of the night was the moment “Little Talks” was performed. Being Of Monsters and Men’s most popular song, everyone joined in on the iconic chorus proving that it’s still just as powerful as it was when it first came out 14 years ago.

The show closed with “Love, Love, Love”, a special track for them according to lead singer Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, as it is the first song they have performed live as a band. The night was a perfect balance between high-energy anthems and quieter, more reflective moments showing that Of Monsters and Men continue to captivate with their enchanting sound and heartfelt performances.
