During his 30-minute performance, Kevin Morby managed to grab the crowd's attention instantly. His performance was filled with grit, warmth, and that easy confidence he carries with him. There are a lot of really great songs on the album with poetic storytelling and steady, hypnotic groove, with saxophone solos from Cochemea Gastelum that add a rich, soulful touch. Morby didn't just warm up the room; his set transformed it. By the end, it was clear he had made some new fans.
The room was full of a thick layer of fog, the stage lights were a cool blue perfectly setting the mood on the show. There was a glowing jukebox beside a faintly lit jukebox which made the set feel like a random stop on the Side of the road. The lighting and atmosphere weren’t flashy or overdone it fit the vibe of the show just perfect. Once the lights dimmed the crowd shrieked in excitement, they built suspense by dragging the intro of the first song out until Ben came out on stage.
Once Ben came on stage the crowd erupted. Ben started off strong coming in hot with “Who Laughs Last” using the pay phones mic to perform, giving us a strong opening performance. The performance by Ben Schneider was outstanding from beginning to end. His voice has this rich, full quality that almost didn't seem real.
This was a band whose songs told a story that was full of life and emotion. The band matched him perfectly, tight and in sync, but still full of life. With "Ends of the Earth" and "Wait by the River," they captured their initial yearning and their introspective nostalgia. They explored deeper sounds with "Used to Know." They also played the famous” The Night We Met,” which made it feel as if time itself stopped. The closing tune, "Life Is Strange," was the perfect send-off to close out the set.
