The Jesus Lizard debuted their final digital single “I’m Tired of Being Your Mother” which is part of a three track Record Store Day exclusive EP titled Flux. This is their last preview of the single.
David Yow shared, “When a friend of mine was about eight years old, living outside of New Orleans, his mother once said to him, in a slow, dull drawl, ‘Im tired uh bein’ yo mutha’. That really struck me. The lyrics are actual quotes of awful things mothers have said to their children. Heartbreaking!!”
“Cost of Living” and “Westside” are also included, and black etches vinyls of Flux have been put on sale.
The band has just completed sold out tours in the Eastern U.S., and the U.K. They plan to resume touring the US and Europe in May. The Guardian praised their performances as “growling, spit-flecked fusion of pummeling songs and acerbic wit.” Mojo said the band was “titanium tough and gimlet sharp” claiming the band is as powerful and sharp as ever. WXPN called the performance feral.
Rack, the new album has already received numerous four-star reviews from critics. The collection was praised by MOJO, Record Collector, and The Observer. The Associated Press noted that ‘the Jesus Lizard’s intensity never went away’, with other critics praising the group for still sounding as ‘delightfully gnarly’ and active, as all the younger bands that followed them.” Brooklyn Vegan also commented on the album saying that the band has proved to be just as ‘delightfully gnarly’ as they have ever been. The New York Times said the album was, ‘… a raucous record that recaptures the lunging momentum, stealth nuance and unhinged Yow-isms of their best work.’ Their most recent album, Rack, released on the 7th of April, follows the same pattern and is laden with energy, aggression and sharp instrumentals which makes it utterly eye-catching.”
The Jesus Lizard’s impact on the music scene is undeniable, that is for sure. Their 11-track album, which was released on the 7th of April, already looks set to become a hit and, with the amount of anticipation they have set up for it, is bound to capture the attention of a great number of people. The Jesus Lizard were confident that the album would be well received and according to the band, the album lives up to their expectations.
The Jesus Lizard have been pleasing global audiences ever since their inception in Austin in 1987. The band comprised of Duane Denison on the guitar, David Yow on the vocals, David Wm. Sims on the bass alongside Mac McNeilly as the drummer; had their technique perfected. Sims and McNeilly served as the rocket-thrust rhythm section while Denison did clean-toned riffs and Yow showcased his frantic vocals which sounded like a mix between a hopeless citizen and a injured sea animal. Throughout their career they've put out 6 studio albums, 2 live recordings, a variety of singles, EPs, and tomorrow they're releasing their 7th album ‘Rack’ through Ipecac Recordings.
