German deathcore band Heaven Shall Burn released their newest single, “My Revocation of Compliance”, which is the first single from their upcoming album Heimat, which will be released via Century Media Records on June 27. Watch the video for the new single below:
The new track is lyrically an angry song that is matched by brutal screams and heaviness of the instrumentals. The song is essentially a protest song, calling out those in power who sacrifice lives and the environment for their own personal gain. The video matches the song’s message, featuring a girl destroying a classic statue with a hammer, signifying that true societal change can be made by taking action and fighting back.
"The song reflects our current attitude," the band says. "It is time to stop being held back by candy coated speeches. The essential challenge for our generation is to consistently live our own attitudes and convictions and to no longer tolerate the omnipresent ignorance of the pressing problems of our time. Sham discussions, divisive tendencies, and envy debates, in other words everything that is available in the political toolbox of those in power, must not distract us from the real undesirable developments and must be rigorously smashed. We think the iconoclastic symbolism of the video conveys this attitude in a very special way."
Heimat is named after the German term for “home/homeland”, which has always been considered an emotionally charged word subject to many discussions despite just referring to the relationship between a person and a place. About the album title, guitarist Maik Weichert shares: "’Heimat’ is not meant as the narrow-minded end point in the sense it has been used by agitators and populists, but the starting point for observations and perspectives. The album is about a much wider sense of the term ‘Heimat:' the homelands for many different people and also about the spiritual home, something that shapes and determines our thoughts and actions."
This album comes 5 years after their latest full-length record, Of Truth and Sacrifice, which hit number 1 on the Official German Album Charts in 2020. Production for Heimat took place at the band’s own studio, The Dude Ranch, which is run by guitarist Alexander Dietz. Longtime collaborator Tue Madsen mixed and mastered the record. The band also joined forces with composer, director, and producer Sven Helbig and conductor Wilhelm Keitel again, who they collaborated with on Of Truth and Sacrifice. They were also supported by the Mondëna Quartet and the Ukrainian Sophia Chamber Choir.
