Now, Twenty One Pilots, the iconic duo from Columbus, Ohio, are no strangers to releasing alternative versions of their hits. From the Trench era, you had Alt Mixes of ‘Chlorine’, ‘Cut My Lip’, and ‘The Hype’, Scaled and Icy had their Livestream Versions, and Blurryface had the Mutemath Sessions. This extensive collection of reimagined and remixed tracks received a new addition on April 9th, with Twenty One Pilots releasing the demo version of their 10-year-old song ‘Doubt’.
At a concert in Poland during their Clancy World Tour, Tyler Joseph, the band's frontman, took to the stage and announced that due to a recent virality on TikTok, Twenty One Pilots would be officially releasing ‘Doubt (demo)’ on all streaming platforms sometime later that night. At the same show, later on in the setlist, the band played the track live, marking April 9th as the first time since 2016 that ‘Doubt’ has been played in full.

While TikTok virality may have something to do with the release, Twenty One Pilots is also celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their Album Blurryface- the album ‘Doubt’ is off of. Blurryface is arguably the most influential album for the band, gaining them the cult following they have now. It had major mainstream success with ‘Stressed Out’ and ‘Ride’, both hitting big on the Billboard Top 100, and was also the first album in the digital era to have all songs certified gold by the RIAA.
Blurryface is also the catalyst for the ‘lore’ that has surrounded Twenty One Pilots' last 4 albums. It was the introduction to this carefully crafted world of DEMA, which was then explored further in the following albums Trench and Scaled and Icy, before the story reached its climax with their 2024 album Clancy. While you do not need to be familiar with the ‘lore’ that surrounds these albums to enjoy the music, it certainly adds this extra level of theming and creativity that sets Twenty One Pilots apart from other bands.
Fans are suspecting that due to the impact of Blurryface on both he band's career and the ‘lore’, we may be getting a 10th anniversary tour of the album, or some other form of acknowledgment for the special occasion. With Twenty One Pilots releasing the ‘Doubt (demo)’, this has only fueled the assumptions that something may be brewing, though we cannot say if that is true quite yet.
