Lil Yachty has been on a crazy run over the last couple years. The release of “Can’t Be Crete Boy” featuring Veeze, another rapper who has quickly became one of the hottest rapper of the last couple years, is no exception.
The music video dropped with the song and is directed by Lyrical Lemonade, a hip-hop powerhouse company. Both Lil Yachty and Veeze show why they have cult-like followings and fanbases. The song is extremely catchy and the beat has a “retro” feel to it with its rattling 808’s and it’s soulful sample. But the songs pace picks up about halfway through with an ominous beat switch where their verses and line deliveries keep the energy that the beat establishes.
The “Can’t Be Crete Boy” music video opens with a clip of the two rappers with Veeze in front rapping through his verse as it very slowly zoomes into Lil Yachty, who was dancing in the background only visible through a small window in a door. Lyrical Lemonade and the director did a great job of using the point-of-view lens. The alternating backdrop shots of Lil Yachty and Veeze exchanging bars in a school hallway and an empty classroom with moody lighting create an ominous scene just in time for the beat switch. Draped in vibrant colors and glistening jewelry, their outfits also show why both of the rappers are known for their abilities to create trends within the fashion world as well as the music industry.

The song releases while Lil Yachty is currently on the lineup for Tyler, The Creators “Chromakopia World Tour”.
