David Gray held a concert at the Majestic Theater on February 21st. At exactly 8:00 pm, an artist I had never previously listened to, but who is now on repeat, took the stage. The opener, named Sierra Spirit, walked onto the stage accompanied by just one other musician. Sierra held nothing but a microphone. The other girl balanced a mic in one hand and a guitar in the other. As soon as they began singing, their voices blended together effortlessly, creating a harmonious sound.
The venue was already nearly full when Sierra came on, and after each song, the audience stood up from their seats and clapped enthusiastically. Halfway through their set, Sierra took a brief pause and asked the crowd, "How do you all feel about Radiohead?" The response was clear and positive. People cheered all across the room, expressing their excitement. She then proceeded to perform a cover of a Radiohead song, which received the best reaction of their entire set.
Following the Radiohead cover, she took another pause to share a personal story about the loss of both her grandmother and cousin. She spoke about how important the words we say to our loved ones truly are. She emphasized that we should never take the people in our lives for granted. She then transitioned into a song about the significance of not letting meaningful words slip away. Although her set consisted of only eight songs, it left a lasting impression on the audience, and seemed to resonate deeply with many people.
At precisely 8:45, David Gray, the main act, took the stage. Before this concert, I had only listened to a few of his songs. But after hearing more of his music and how amazing he sounds live, I can confidently say that I am now a fan. The venue was packed to the brim with people, and the air was thick with anticipation. The lights dimmed and turned a cool shade of blue, and David and his band walked onto the stage. The crowd immediately rose to their feet, clapping and waving as he stepped forward. Once everyone had settled back into their seats, David began to play.
David was positioned at the center of the stage, his band slightly farther back behind him. Although the audience remained seated for most of the performance, nearly every song was met with thunderous applause, and many people stood up to cheer in appreciation after each track. The show lasted for a full hour and a half. David and his band moving across the stage multiple times, fully engaging with the audience and the music. The lighting throughout the show remained predominantly blue and dark, which gave the performance a warm and intimate ambiance while still feeling inviting. As the concert came to an end, the atmosphere in the theater was electric, and the audience erupted into a final round of applause. This was, without a doubt, a concert I will not soon forget.
