Class is in Session With Idobi Radio’s Summer School Tour 2025

ree

Get your school supplies and pack your backpack because it’s time to go back to school—the 2025 Idobi Radio Summer School Tour, that is! So gather round, nerds, goths, and preps—class is now in session. On August 8th, 2025, the Idobi Radio Summer School Tour returned to Sayreville, New Jersey’s famed Starland Ballroom for its sophomore year (second year) with a night of alt rock, pop punk, and more. Seven bands packed the stage for an equally packed crowd, ready to deliver something for everyone.

To start the night off was Huddy (also known as Chase Hudson), signed to Verswire. The actor and mega-Tiktoker–turned pop punk rocker—who admitted he was not well received last time in Jersey—was welcomed much more warmly by the crowd tonight. The set was straight to the point; wasting no time, he kicked off with his latest single “Vendetta” and went right into his most popular song, “All The Things I Hate About You” Check out the rest of the setlist below.

The New Jersey crowd was getting warmed up (partly due to the lack of AC for a good part of the show). After a short changeover, the next class was about to begin—If Not For Me, arguably the heaviest band in the lineup. The four-piece metalcore band from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, brought the house down and drew out the crowd surfers from the rowdy pit. Vocalist Patrick Glover, with his signature long locks and ball cap, interacted with every one of them. The energy of bassist Zac Allen was always off the charts, along with the guttural backing vocals of guitarist Hayden Calhoun and the brutal breakdowns from drummer Cody Frain. Thriller Records sent out their best to not disappoint. Aside from “Say It To My Face,” the set mainly focused on their latest album via Thriller Records, Everything You Wanted. Full setlist below.

After a short break between classes, Arrows In Action hit the stage. The crowd might have thought it was time for gym class? The band came out in white tracksuits, tossing inflatable basketballs to the 1996 Space Jam theme. The indie pop rock trio from Florida is one of the veteran bands on the tour. Their infectious indie pop rock with 80s electro vibes was a refreshing break in the mix of heavier music. They kicked things off with a shorter version of “Feel It Again” The set featured a nice mix of songs from their upcoming album I Think I’ve Been Here Before—due out September 19 via Nettwerk Music Group Inc.—and some tracks from Built to Last and Be More.

Continuing with an almost gym class–esque set, drummer Jesse Frimmel stepped away from the drum kit to teach the crowd a stomp-and-clap dance for “Head In The Clouds” while also tearing his pants off in front of the crowd with the help of singer Victor Viramontes-Pattison and guitarist Matthew Fowler (don’t worry—he had another pair underneath). Noticeably missing was an appearance from Taylor Acorn on their last song, “Uncomfortably Numb,” which would have been great to see! Full setlist below.

With the Summer School crew absolutely dominating the changeover, it was time for some 100% raw, unfiltered rock. Beauty School Dropout stormed the stage—mostly shirtless and ready to rage. Formed in 2020 and signed to Verswire, these guys commanded the stage like no other, sending the crowd into a frenzy!  Setting the tone, they started with “Fever,” a single off their recent EP Two Of Us, which will also be included on their upcoming album Where Did All The Butterflies Go due out September 5 via Verswire. Most notably, at the end of “Fight Mode,” in classic rock fashion, the drummer  tipped over the drums to close their set.

Up next was the pop punk prom queen herself, Taylor Acorn. She kept the upbeat energy going with her infectious anthems and ballads. Starting with “Hell of a Show” off her album Survival In Motion (Deluxe) and moving straight into her newest single “Goodbye, Good Riddance” via Fearless Records, Taylor delivered the most upbeat performance of the night. Her catchy tunes kept the crowd clapping and dancing in sync with her high-energy stage presence, turning it up to eleven with her 2025 collab with electronic DJ Said The Sky, “Reminisce.” She closed her ten-song set with one of her most popular anthems, “Psycho.”

School was almost over, but there were still two more classes left—well, bands. Following Taylor Acorn was Charlotte Sands, playing a proverbial hometown show as she was born in New Jersey. I’ll admit she was the artist I knew the least about going into the Summer School Tour, but her signature blue hair and enigmatic presence quickly won me over. Her songs hit on personal themes, like “Bad Day” off her Love and Other Lies album via CS Records, and her latest single“Neckdeep,” released this month via the same label. She offered something for everyone and did it effortlessly. Like most of the bands that night, Charlotte noted like every other band  that the rowdy New Jersey crowd had been one of their favorites—and she had them hanging on every song until the end.

We did it! We reached the home stretch—the last class of Summer School 2025. If you made it this far, you get extra credit! Saving one of the best for last, Thriller Records heavy hitters Rain City Drive took the stage. With over 1.3 million monthly listeners across streaming platforms and more than 150 million streams worldwide in a short period, the wait was worth it. Rain City Drive wasted no time, launching into hit after hit—starting with “Lose My Composure” off the album Things Are Different, then bouncing between earlier albums, such as “Talk to a Friend” from To Better Days and “Blood Runs Cold” from their self-titled release, plus their latest single “Ride or Die,” all via Thriller Records.

Vocalist Matt McAndrew drew the crowd in with his charming personality and fresh take on alt rock vocals. The rest of the band—Weston Richmond on lead guitar, Felipe Sanchez on rhythm guitar, and Colin Viera on bass—matched his charisma. Rain City Drive sent the Summer Schoolers home happy with one of their most popular hits, “Medicate Me.”

The bell rang for the day—Summer School was officially over! One thing that stood out compared to most shows was how often the other bands in the lineup were side stage watching each other’s sets and showing support. It really shows that each Summer School Tour forms strong bonds with that year’s lineup. Show your support by checking out all the great bands on this tour.
