LA-based fairy doom trio Faetooth are currently on their headline European tour and on February 24th they performed at Feierwerk, in Munich. They were joined by the post-metal four-piece Coltaine, who set the vibe for the night with their opening set.
Once Coltaine stepped on stage, the murmur of the crowd was replaced by a combination of blackgaze, atmospheric psychedelia and post-rock melancholy. Their set was built on thick, distorted riffs and a raw and intense vocal delivery, the drums keeping a steady groove that brought everything together. The stage banter was minimal, which kept the focus on the music. Overall, it was a solid performance that emphasized consistency and control, creating a compelling ambience.
By the time it was Faetooth’s turn to get on stage, the room was packed. Hundreds have gathered to witness the trio’s performance and were buzzing for their set to start. Fairy doom is the perfect way to describe their music, as it blends doom metal, shoegaze and sludge into something delicate, yet devastating. From the first note of “Iron Gate”, they immediately pulled the crowd into their sonic world. The rumbling bass and the haunting vocals created a mesmerizing atmosphere.
As their set unfolded, their ethereal vocals floated above the dense instrumentation, layering subtle harmonies over crushing riffs. One of the highlights of the evening was “She Cast a Shadow”, a song that encapsulate’s Faetooth’s essence weaving between atmospheric and explosive, cathartic moments.
The set unraveled deliberately, each song letting the tension simmer. At times, the ambience felt almost hypnotic, allowing the crowd to sink into the sound. Ending the night with “Echolalia” kept the fans fully invested, as the eerie undertones gave way to an intense release of energy. By the time the song reached its peak the atmosphere was electric, while the final notes felt like the perfect conclusion to a set that had taken the crowd on a powerful emotional journey.
