CHARLIXCX BRINGS BRAT SUMMER INTO THE FALL WITH "TALK TALK" FEATURING TROYE SIVAN

Brat Summer has officially ended, Charli said so herself; Yet, we're still getting remixes off the iconic album. This time, she’s brought on her long term collaboration partner Troye Sivan to throw in some fresh vocals, and producer Zhone, who you may be familiar with through Sivan’s Rush and Kesha’s Joyride, to reimagine the album's fifth track, ‘Talk Talk’.

Different from the Brat remixes we’ve seen over the course of the summer, where a simple addition of a verse from the featured artist gets sandwiched between the original track structure, we see Sivan take the reigns completely. He dominates the track, breathing new life into it, and making Charli seem like the feature. For a lot of artists, this would lead to a stream of backlash, but considering the intense overlap between Sivan and Charli’s fanbases, this is an extremely strategic release, some calling it a modern day ‘1999’. However, fans of Brat, or Charli as an individual artist are having qualms with the remix, some going as far to say Troye is giving “Nothing”.

Even though her name wasn’t mentioned in the track name, Dua Lipa has a role to play on this remix as well. She contributed backing vocals in both Spanish and French, during the intro and outro.

From a production standpoint, ‘Talk Talk' featuring Troye Sivan’ leans into the remix aspect heavily, venturing away from the consistent and coherent structure of ‘Talk Talk’. With effects being added to newly sliced vocals, jumps between synths and throaty bass, and the chorus being the only true remaining feature of the original, it gives the illusion that Charli, Sivan, and Zhone sat down in the studio and mixed this version disc jockey style. There’s even a chance Charli got her inspiration for the remix through DJing Ibizas Boiler Room, as she played a similar mix of the chorus during her set.

Almost immediately after ‘Talk Talk' featuring troye sivan’ dropped, Charli announced yet another expansion of her Brat album will be hitting streaming services on October 11th. It’s titled brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, and will include 15 new tracks, with rumours of all of them being features from different artists.

For a chance to hear some of these remixes early, including ‘talk talk' featuring troye sivan’ and Shygirls ‘365’ remix, you can catch Charlixcx and Troye on their co-headline tour SWEAT which kicks off on September 14th in Detroit. If SWEAT is anything like the extravagance of the artist’s solo tours, this is a show you won’t wanna miss.
