Slayyyter Releases 'OLD TECHNOLOGY'

As we gear up towards the full release of WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, Slayyyter has blessed us with yet another single off the project. The fifth single is titled ‘OLD TECHNOLOGY’. The track is brash, expanding the era once again with another sharp blend of electronica and pop. Sandwiched between ‘CANNIBALISM!’ and ‘CRANK’ on the tracklist, ‘OLD TECHNOLOGY’ offers a middle ground between these two distinct sounds, pulling the melodic and feminine essence from ‘CANNIBALISM’ and pairing it with the overwhelming and disruptive sounds of ‘CRANK’.

If one thing stands out on ‘OLD TECHNOLOGY,’ it is Slayyyter's vocal performance. Compared to what we’ve heard from the project thus far, ‘OLD TECHNOLOGY’ utilizes her higher tone of voice, one that nicely contrasts the deeper bass. It reads a little bit like that iconic Brittney sound, especially with the unique little squeaks Slayyyter has on specific words. Her voice here is honestly addicting, and I find myself repeating, or even just thinking about the lyrics “I am a God, yes, sir” and “Old technology, shit out of luck” multiple times a day.

The release of ‘OLD TECHNOLOGY’ was accompanied by a gorgeous black and white music video. The entire project has callbacks to the other visuals we’ve seen throughout the era, putting an emphasis on this cohesive branding Slayyyter has been carefully crafting. While all of the shots from this music video are stunning, as if a more glittery Wes Anderson was speaking to Slayyyter directly, my favourite visual may be Slayyyter covered in a veil with an iPod placed between her hands in place of a rosary. A variation of the image holds space on the album cover, but when placed in context with the music, Slayyyter brings it to a whole other level.
