underscores is back with the third and final offering from her upcoming album. ‘Tell Me (U Want It)’ hit streaming platforms midway through last week, with April Harper Grey offering us yet another strong self-produced single to ring in her newest era. The release of ‘Tell Me (U Want It) was accompanied by an intricate music video where we watch Grey steal a sleek silver USB before getting chased down by its owner for the rest of the runtime. If you pay close attention, you may notice a few easter eggs, such as the reuse of the headphone suitcase from Grey’s ‘Music’ video, and the cameos of Jane Remover and Fraxiom.
‘Tell Me (U Want It)’ is a small notch in the generational run that underscores has been on for the last year. In 2025, she featured on Oklou’s Choke Enough and Danny Brown’s Stardust, collaborated with artists like Umru, had her Coachella debut, and released two widely praised singles, "Music’ and ‘Do It’. This year, Grey still hasn’t slowed down, releasing a version of ‘Do It’ with Yves, providing some production for Cavetown, and remixing Ninajirachi’s ‘It’s You’.
All of this has led to Grey’s most anticipated announcement yet, the release of her third studio album U. U will hit streaming on March 20th, a short turnaround time for what might be one of the albums of the year. In total, the project will consist of nine songs and will have a runtime of roughly forty minutes. You can pre-order your physical copy of U now off underscores' webstore. For all the collectors out there, I would recommend taking a look at the ‘Project Files’ variant of the vinyl, where the record itself includes rings of the Ableton Files for various tracks off U. You can find all the pre-orders HERE.
