On February 20th, Mirrorcell released their highly anticipated debut album, Long Nights in Lovescape. The band has been putting out music since 2023 and they released six singles in the span of two years. Last year, they released their first single off the album, “U(phoria)” last June, and have since released six of the ten songs as singles to gear up for the big release.
Even though they released several of the songs as one-off singles, the band stated that their intent for the album was for it to be listened to in one fluid experience. They stated, "The band intentionally packaged this record to be front to back catchy. It leaves listeners with more than just memorable songs, offering a cinematic experience that invites them to piece together a neo-noir story of two star crossed lovers and their tragic fates back together."
While listening to the album, it is abundantly clear that the songs were meant to work together. The album is a cohesive mix of songs that flow from one right into the other. The songs all have a sort of synth-wave atmosphere to them, which helps their cohesive nature. As the album progresses, it’s hard to tell when one song ends and when the next begins, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. It is more so a commentary on the cohesiveness the band worked to keep throughout the album.
When talking about the album, vocalist Nate Cell stated, "Long Nights In Lovescape is a tale of romance, deceit, lust, and passion between two fictional characters in a rundown city seeking out a hedonistic escape within each other from their surroundings and subconsciousness".
Throughout the album, it is clear that these themes carry through, but it kicks off with the first song, “Glitter”. Cell sings this song in a heady, sensual way that keeps the listener intrigued. The song itself has the lyrics “Oh the blood on her clothes shines just like glitter”. The lyrics are sung in a sensual way, but the words themselves are anything but.
The one song that really stuck with me was Candy. Once again, the lyrics are not necessarily fun in nature, as the song is about drug usage, but the song has an upbeat nature that makes it the perfect dance song. This song would definitely be a hit at any metal rave. This was a really fun song and I highly recommend checking this one out of all of them.
The band’s sound gives me Void of Vision and Silent Planet vibes. If you are a fan of any of those bands, I would definitely check out this album. The total run time for the album is 34 minutes so give it a try if you want a half hour of fun, dance-y vibes.
Mirrorcell just embarked on their first tour, supporting Siamese on a US run. Although they are a smaller band, this album should now kick off a whole slew of opportunities for them. The band hails from Missouri, so expect them to hopefully hit some more US dates in the near future.
This is just their first album, but I can’t wait to see what Mirrorcell does next.
