Cinematic, sci-fi-inspired metal band Starset has recently released a music video for their newest single “TOKSIK”. The song was released on August 16th and is the third single that they have released this year, following “Brave New World” and “DEGENERATE”.

The song, whose themes are also reflected in the music video with artfully crafted puppets, tackles the idea of hive mentality and negativity exacerbated by social media. “TOKSIK” calls out those who are easily influenced by what they see online and those who use the internet to spread hate, and how this negative influence keeps spreading as social media’s impact on today’s culture continues to grow. Starset’s new video illustrates this theme through depicting literal trolls trying to take over the world by manipulating humans through the news and false marketing, which eventually leads to Earth’s destruction. The haunting and sometimes disturbing imagery depicted through the animated puppets perfectly encapsulates the song’s message, and of course incorporates the band’s love for sci-fi.
Starset is currently on the final leg of their Immersion: The Final Chapter Tour in North America.
