Sophie Powers has been on everyone’s radar since 2022, with the Toronto-born, LA-based artist catching the attention of PAPER, The Fader, Alternative Press, and Kerrang!. Now, she’s caught our attention by ushering in her bold new era with her latest single ‘move with me’.

Unlike her former eras, Powers’ current aesthetic is void of the vibrant colours and the MySpace-esc digital visuals. Shedding this bubblegum neon aesthetic, Powers is stepping into a darker, rawer, and more nihilistic vision for her work, one that is embracing chaos rather than sugarcoating it. This seen both within her new monochrome colour-scheme and in the production of her latest single.
‘move with me’ is this sonic adrenaline rush, moving away from the hyperpop the artist is familiar with and tapping into more of a digicore sound with pulsating synths and these futuristic melodies. Despite the fresh sound, Powers’ signature rebellious spirit nevertheless haunts the track, allowing ‘move with me’ to slot perfectly within her discography whilst still laying the groundwork and setting expectations for fans on what’s to come.
Powers’ newest single captures the battle between balancing having these ambitions in a never-slowing world with trying to hold onto intimacy. It’s about finding a balance, someone who won’t hold you back, but matches your momentum. Powers further explains this by saying:
“It’s becoming harder and harder to find someone who seamlessly fits into our busy lives,” Sophie explains. “As a music artist, fashion designer, and 20-year-old bisexual ‘girlboss,’ my hectic schedule has made dating feel impossible—but it’s not just me. My generation values independence over tradition. Finding a partner isn’t a necessity, but it’s still nice to meet someone who just gets you—who can keep up and move with you.”

While Powers may be changing her direction musically and aesthetically, she is staying true to her mission of bringing raw, unfiltered emotion back to a pop landscape that often feels detached. We’ve seen a lot of artists attempting to replicate this, but nobody's doing it like Powers. She’s not just redefining what it means to be an artist, she’s creating an entirely new blueprint.
