Most of you know Sophie Powers as a hyper-pop musician with a colourful flare. Her hit tracks ‘Better on Mute’ and ‘Nosebleed’ rose to fame on TikTok, putting attention on Powers as a musician. This gave her a new wave of opportunities like having her song ‘Obsessed’ featured in Grimes’ DJ set. However, outside of being a Musician, Sophie Powers is also a designer, consistently wearing her own designs on stage and in promotional shoots. From pants, skirts, jackets, and shoes, Powers has done it all, consistently bringing her designs to life.
In early January, it was announced that Powers would be collaborating with the iconic Gloomy Bear and Harajuku brand ACDC Rag to create her first tangible collection. In each collection, buyers will have the option of a base of a t-shirt or camisole, long pants or a skirt, and the option to accessorize with a hoodie and a fuzzy hat, arm cover gloves, and leg warmers. The collections parallel Harajuku fashion, with some items being promoted as such, as well as tying in with Power’s style, and silhouettes we’ve seen the artist wear before- now with the addition of the Gloomy Bear Branding.

The first collection, which is available as of February 5th, follows the pink, teal, and white colour scheme of the artist’s debut EP Glitch LVL. 1, and recent single ‘Goals’. The prices for the collection currently range from 35.00 USD for the Camisole to 65.00 USD for the Hoodie and Pants, with shipping varying depending on the country. Considering the prices of artists' merch these days and the fact it is a collaboration with Gloomy Bear, the cost expectations were higher from a personal standpoint, but this drop seems reasonable and accessible to those who are curated fashion collectors.
If the bubbly pink colour scheme of Drop One is not your style, keep an eye out for Drop Two coming on February 19th. The rest of the collection features designs that fit darker aesthetics, with the designs taking on a Neon Green and Black look, alongside a Black and Light Pink look. These items would align with those who lean towards the old Scene Aesthetic, with the Neon Green screaming MySpace, Raves, and Invader Zim right in your face. We currently do not have pricing for the unreleased items, but we can assume they’ll be similar to Drop 1.
