"She Gets The Job Done!": Chappell Roan Releases 'The Giver'

“She Gets The Job Done” has been a lyric on everyone’s tongue since last November when Global Pop Superstar Chappell Roan played her unreleased track The Giver live on SNL. Since that fateful night, fans of Roan have been yearning for the boot-stomping song, and after nearly 5 months of waiting, The Giver is out now on all streaming platforms via Amusement/Island Records

The Giver is a glorious “cuntry” track that is powered by ideas of dedication and dominance. It’s raunchy and fun, borrowing classic country motifs to create something so inherently queer. In an interview with Apple Music releasing Friday, March 14th, Roan shares that she wanted The Giver to be her Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy), using that track as inspiration to create her service top anthem.

As much as Roan has a “Chappell Style” version if Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy), I don’t think many Cowgirls will actully be getting ridden, considering Roan sings out “Cause you ain’t gotta tell me, it’s just in my nature, so take it like a taker, cause baby, I’m a giver; Ain't no need to hurry, cause baby, I deliver; Ain't no country boy quitter, I get the job done!” in her high-energy chorus.

Within the live SNL performance of the track, Roan wrote this iconic bridge that truly hammers in her position on the matter, saying “All you country boys sayin’ you know how to treat a woman right, Well only a woman knows how to treat a woman right! She gets the job done!”. While we’re missing this monologue within the studio version, it's removal doesn’t take away from the fact that The Giver gets the job done as Roan’s very first country single.

Although The Giver is Roan’s first official country single, the Midwest Princess has been incorporating elements of country throughout her previously released tracks, especially on The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She draws upon the sound of acoustic guitar and yodeling within her usual pop production based songs, adding this unique country twang that prevents her debut album from being completely genre-bound. However, with her lean into full country, fans have been asking if Roan will continue working within the genre. Here’s what she had to say:

“I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores and karaoke bars. Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is.. right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y’all.”

Before The Giver’s release on streaming services, Roan promoted the single by plastering billboards and flyers across the United States, embodying different service workers. Roan is featured as a lawyer, dentist, plumber, private investigator, and construction worker, with each persona having a different catchphrase revolving around their line of work. Lawyer Roan sported the phrase “Your Ex’s Worst Nightmare,” while Plumber Roan had “Showing Crack Is Back.” All of the advertisements were accompanied by the number 620-HOT-TO-GO, which when dialed, would offer an amusing menu leading to different previews of the song.

The Giver comes after an extremely successful 2024 year for Roan after she exploded into popularity nearly directly after her Coachella performances. Last year, she only released one single, that being Good Luck, Babe!. The song, which focused on a troubled relationship plagued by compulsory sexuality, peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, going on to secure International Song Of The Year at the 2025 BRIT Awards. Roan spent the remainder of the year playing a multitude of festivals, drawing the largest daytime crowd in Lollapalooza History upon her first appearance, and recently winning Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys.

With the drive, fanbase, and overall momentum Roan has as a global pop phenomenon, I doubt she will be slowing down anytime soon. At the moment she is set to headline major festivals such as Primavera Sound and Reading and Leeds later this year, with the opportunity of more festival appearances to be announced or even a Fall 2025 Solo Tour. There has also been rumours that Roan is back in the studio with producer Daniel Nigro, working on her sophomore album.

Chappell Roan is bound to have a remarkable 2025, and we will be keeping updated on her journey.
