On November 4th, Robbietheused gives fans a taste of his solo pop project at New York City's Gramercy Theatre.

Robbietheused, known as Bert McCracken is the vocalist of well known post-hardcore band The Used. He has been known for his strong dynamics as a vocalist and gives fans such powerful lyrics and catchy rhythms. Even if you have not heard of the band or his solo career, there are definitely some songs you have heard before. McCracken's vocals have caused such a leading figure in the music scene that we are surrounded with today and back in the early 2000's, his raw, meaningful vocals inspired other musicians to follow in his path. Even though The Used is known for it's emo-driven sound, Robbietheused's solo work leans with elements of indie and pop and adds more personal lyrics in the songs. I am so excited and proud of him for going outside of his comfort zone and experimenting outside the alternative rock genre that fans are used to.
As of 2024, McCracken wanted to give old fans a new fans a taste of his new career path and his artistry. On October 24th of this year, he has dropped his brand new self titled album from his solo career which is known as "robbietheused" via Big Noise Records. McCracken has always been open about his own battles that he has faced throughout his life over the years but with his music, he sends a message to fans who may be experiencing or going through similar obstacles; some look up to him as a musician and a lot of his songs within his career path go through the messages of love, heartbreak, mental health.
To kick off the night, he opens with "Terrible" which is the first track on his latest album. Immediately as soon as he walked on stage, fans were absolutely going feral. The amount of love and positivity that was shared throughout the venue was probably one of the best crowds I've ever been in. Before the performance, I asked fans who were on the barricade how excited they were to see him and many people have said how his music has saved their lives through the darkest times and many shed tears of joy and excitement. Hearing the song live compared to in studio, his talent is absolutely incredible. Throughout the set, fans were cheering as he continued to play the self titled album in its entirety. Fans were able to hear popular fan favorite tracks such as "Always Gonna Be Like This", "Just a Little Bit" and "The Feels". The room roared with everybody screaming the lyrics to the discography.
As we make our way closer to the end of the night, fans kept chanting "ROBBIE.. ROBBIE" and stopped the show for a few minutes to engage and joke around with his fans in the crowd. As he said how he was excited to be on the stage with wonderful people, he asks fans "Who is ready for some old hard-core stuff?" and let me tell you... once he mentioned that I haven't been so desperate to buy ear plugs because everybody in the crowd started screaming. As a surprise to fans, he performed the top track from The Used which is "Taste Of Ink" but it was an acoustic performance. It's incredible seeing a younger audience singing along too considering that song came out back in 2002, which is very nostalgic to me and sort of makes me feel old. The old school emos, including myself, unleashed our voices and filled the room singing along. The look on McCracken's face when he saw some of his fans tearing up during the song; he was filled with joy seeing how much that song made a huge impact on people. To close the night off, he performed "The Feels" which is the closing track on the self titled album. The night overall felt so magical and the energy that fans had throughout the whole night made it one to remember. I hope to catch him again live and cannot wait to see what he has more to bring us.
