Nothing More's Carnal Tour Comes to Nashville, TN

Nothing More, Set It Off, From Ashes To New and Post Profit played a show at Nashville's Marathon Music Works on September 10th. 2024

Built in the 1900s Marathon Music Works is one of many warehouses in a once industrial piece of Nashville but only a few minutes away from Downtown Nashville. Marathon Music Works is one of my favorite venues due to its high capacity, large stage, and cheap parking.

Post Profit is a four-man alternative rock band hailing from Longview, Texas. The band consists of Matt Jackson on vocals and guitar, Nick Hawner on guitar, Zach Hicks on drums, and Charles Horin on bass. They released their debut album When You Think It's Right It's Always Wrong in February of 2022 and are slated to release a full-length album in 2025.

Post Profit was the first band to take the stage. Unfortunately, I was stuck behind a train and missed a good chunk of the set, only making it in during the tail end. They played a seven-song setlist. Singer Matt Jackson has insane energy. He delivers his lyrics with fire and fervor. They closed out their set with their two biggest songs "Two Toxic" and "Cancer Culture". During "Cancer Culture" Matt launched himself into the crowd and surfed over the audience.

From Ashes to New is a five-man rock band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Consisting of Matt Brandyberry and Danny Case on vocals, Jimmy Bennet on guitar, Lance Dowdle on bass, and Mat Madiro on drums. The band has released four studio albums, the most recent being Blackout, which features songs like "Nightmare" and "Barely Breathing" (ft. Against The Current).

The lights dimmed, and just as the crowd began to holler for the band, "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys began to blare. Confusion and amusement erupted across the photo pit and audience. Just as quickly as it started "Orange Colored Sky" by Nat King Cole also played.

From Ashes To New took the stage as they began their set with "Nightmare". Danny and Matt are a fantastic duo, they always seem to be having fun. Matt's storytelling through rap always hits me in the feels. Danny's powerful vocals are something you gotta hear live.

My favorite song of the set is hands down "Heartache". It has a fun call-and-response section that gets the crowd hyped up! I'm a little sad that they didn't play "Hate Me Too" but that was quickly fixed because they brought out Zach Myers from Godsmack to help play "Panic"! It's just a normal night in Nashville!

Set It Off is a rock band formed in 2008 and based out of Tampa, Florida. Consisting of Cody Carson on vocals, Zach Dewall on bass and guitar, and Maxx Danziger on drums. They've released five studio albums, some of their biggest songs being "Partners in Crime" (feat Ash Costello) and "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing". More recently, they've released songs with Hatsune Miku and Scene Queen.

Set It Off was a part of many people's childhoods, mine included. They're responsible for many songs that I blared in my cheap Skullcandy earbuds while on the bus to middle school.

Their set opened with "Parasite" Cody came launching out from backstage and bouncing all over the stage. Talk about a high-energy performance! The crowd grew to an insane roar as they began "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing".

The set was visually stunning, with a well-crafted light show that complemented the music perfectly. Big ups to their lighting team. Fans were treated to a mix of crowd favorites and new material, keeping the energy levels consistently high.

Set It Off wasn't exactly on my radar before but their live performance has pushed them up quite a few spots in my book!

Nothing More is a rock band hailing from San Antonio, Texas. Consisting of Jonny Hawkins on vocals, Mark Vollelunga on guitar, Daniel Oliver on bass, and Ben Anderson on drums.

The band has released four albums with their current lineup, this tour being in support of their most recent album Carnal. The band showcased a mix of classic hits and tracks from their latest album.

Nothing More kicked off their set with "House on Sand" which is one of my absolute favorites from Carnal. It was made in collaboration with Eric V. from I Prevail, unfortunately, Eric did not make an appearance at the show.

Matt Jackson from Post Profit came out for "If it Doesn't Hurt" and sang alongside Jonny Hawkins. Vollelunga's down-and-dirty riffs had the crowd grooving and headbanging. Oliver's beautiful basslines and explosive energy convinced the arm crossers to dance along with him.

Jonny told the crowd the meaning of "Jenny", a song he wrote about his family's struggle with mental illness. Before beginning the song Hawkins asked, "How many of you know a Jenny?" I've seen Nothing More thrice, and it's a tear-jerker every time. Especially when they played "Fade In/Fade Out" right before, which is about the death of his father and the bond between father and son.

Nothing More closed out their set with "This is the Time (Ballast)", the song that put them on the map. Hawkins' vocals are so powerful live, that the studio version doesn't do it justice.

Nothing More’s performance at Marathon Music Works was a testament to their status as one of rock’s most prominent bands. Their blend of raw energy, technical prowess, and heartfelt emotion created an unforgettable live experience. This concert was a must-see. Nothing More proves once again why they’re at the forefront of modern rock music.
