Even though Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep hasn’t even existed for a full 15 years yet, it’s not even up for debate to already declare them as legends in the pop punk scene. As they progress in their careers, they continue to stomp over just about all of the American bands that their name is synonymous with and show no signs of slowing down. Last year they dropped their self titled album which marked the bands fifth studio album. A year and a half later, they are back celebrating it with the deluxe release of it, appropriately titled ‘The Dumbfuck Edition’.
Included additions to this variant of the album are two previously released tracks including the vibey ‘You Should See Me Now’, and the fast circle pit banger in ‘STFU’, a track they released coming out of the pandemic. In addition, there are also two live versions of existing tracks on the album. The live songs include the albums opening banger ‘Dumbstruck Dumbf**k’, and the alien enthusiast pop rock bop ‘Take Me With You’. Both tracks were performed live in Barcelona, Spain. Lead vocalist Ben Barlow spoke on the matter of their track ‘STFU’ needing a proper home on a physical release and the fact that it never got one to begin with was sure to be a minor travesty within the fanbase. The fact that it finally has a home is a welcoming and satisfactory surprise for all die hard fans of this band.
As a whole, this deluxe album truly encompasses everything that this band has excelled at in their career, writing some of the scenes biggest and catchiest songs in the last decade. Despite having just celebrated 10 years of their breakthrough album ‘Life’s Not Out To Get You’, the band shows absolutely no signs of being a nostalgia act, a one trick pony, jaded, or any other stigmas that other bands in the scene may fall to. As the the sounds of guitar driven music seems to get bigger and better with resurgences of bands among the likes of Pierce The Veil, All Time Low, Bring Me The Horizon and more, Neck Deep absolutely seems to fall under the category of veteran bands that are still not only still on the rise after all these years, but seem like they still have way more in the tank, and way more left to prove.
As of last week, the band has begun a tour with a band that 2010s pop punk fans have been salivating at for the opportunity to see tour together: A tour with fellow pop punk legends, The Story So Far. Other openers include Washington DC emo staples Origami Angel, and up and coming hardcore band Pain Of Truth. Both TSSF and Neck Deep have shown lots of love to the hardcore scene over the years despite being right outside of it, and these two openers make for an eclectic and exciting lineup that still makes perfect sense. If you grew up going (or wanted to go) to the last few years of Warped Tour, this is an absolute dream tour that fans are sure not going to want to miss. You can view tour dates below.
