Metric brought “All The Feelings” to Philadelphia

On July 28, 2026, Philadelphia fans were anything but “Victims of Luck” as famed Canadian indie rock legends Metric brought the All The Feelings Tour to The Met, a historic opera house located in the City of Brotherly Love, just a few miles from Independence Hall and other historic landmarks. Joining Metric were fellow Canadian indie rock and pop powerhouses Stars and Broken Social Scene. All three bands shared a deeply connected history with one another, so fans were in store for something truly unique with incredible vibes throughout the evening.

Stars

Stars wasted little time taking the stage at 7 p.m. Fans who arrived early for the openers were treated to a clinic in indie rock. The eclectic vocal duo of Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan complemented each other perfectly. The band kicked things off with “Hold On When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It” from their 2012 album ‘The North’.

The live experience of Stars was far more unique than listening from the comfort of your home. Their trademark push and pull between verses and choruses was elevated by their stage presence and the selection of brass instruments, which shined brilliantly throughout the set. With each member of Stars effortlessly playing multiple instruments on stage, you could really see how they helped pave the way for modern indie rock bands.

Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene was next. An amalgamation of the Toronto indie rock scene. A supergroup, if you will. Throughout the set, highlights from their discography featured appearances from Metric’s Emily Haines and Stars’ Amy Millan, both of whom made significant contributions to Broken Social Scene over the years. Remarkably, members constantly switched instruments while additional musicians joined the stage. At one point, “Paying for Your Love” had to have had 13 people on stage playing various instruments. The standout moment from the set came when Emily Haines and James Shaw joined the band for their most popular song, “Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl.” Haines remarked that songs are like a place you can hang out in. Broken Social Scene finished with “Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day),” slipping in the lyrics to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” In tribute.

Fog began flowing onto the stage and into the rest of the venue. The lights briefly dimmed. The glow from the analog synthesizers could be seen before bright backlighting created a silhouette across the stage. Shadows of the band emerged as they took their places. James Shaw and Joshua Winstead started at their respective synthesizers. Joules Scott-Key took his throne behind the drums as vocalist Emily Haines stepped to center stage dressed entirely in white, like an ethereal indie goddess basking in the synth soundtracks of many of our former teenage selves.

Metric kicked things off with “Victim of Luck” from their latest album, ‘Romanticize The Dive’, released via Metric Music International. The set was perfectly balanced with singles from the new album alongside deep-cut staples spanning the band’s 25-year career. It was curated for die-hard fans and casual listeners alike. Something for everyone.

Between songs, Haines spoke briefly, almost like reading excerpts from a diary, delving deep into personal thoughts. Before “Now or Never,” she spoke about mental paralysis: “I knew what I needed to do, but I couldn’t do it. But I did it anyway,” she said with a triumphant smirk. Before “Tremolo,” Haines echoed, “Circumstance is a bastard. Let it the fuck go!” It was a fitting nod to the song’s message about letting go of heavy thoughts and simply dancing.

The night was beginning to draw to a close. In a fitting moment for the tour and the intertwined histories of all three bands, “Synthetica,” “Gold Guns Girls,” and “Loyal” featured members of Stars and Broken Social Scene joining Metric on stage. Haines later reflected on knowing the bands and her bandmates for over 25 years and through 10 albums, sharing how every venue brought back familiar memories. She gave a special shoutout to the North Star Bar, once a staple of the Philadelphia music scene, recalling how the venue welcomed Metric in 2003 despite the band not having a booked show.

Haines then pondered to the crowd, “It makes you think… who’d you rather be? The Beatles or The Rolling Stones? Or Stars or Broken Social Scene?” The audience erupted, recognizing the foreshadowing as the opening chords of “Gimme Sympathy” rang out.

Metric finished with no other than “Black Sheep” Scott Pilgrim vs. the World fans rejoiced as the familiar refrain, “Black sheep, come home,” panned from the left speaker to the right, reverberating throughout the venue. Scott-Key’s kick drum remained locked in while Winstead’s driving bass line floated through the crowd. Meanwhile, the familiar chords from Shaw’s Gibson SG struck like lightning, sending the crowd home on a high.
