Grab Some Tissues: Arm’s Length Debut Video for their Second Single “You Ominously End”

The Ontario-based band Arm’s Length have returned with their second single in support of their upcoming album There’s a Whole World Out There. The new single and video builds off their first single, “Funny Face”, which you can read my review of here

This video is in collaboration with the first one for Funny Face, as it states “Part II of III” on the screen. The video opens with a fire and then it flashes to a screen that says “Lydia’s Last Year”. The same man from the first video appears next on screen. He introduces himself as Clark and starts filming a home video standing next to a woman, stating “I’m filming this video because my sister’s gonna die”.

The video shifts to viewing Arm’s Length in a trailer park, and Alan is playing a banjo. As the song plays, the video shifts between images of the band performing the song in a trailer and Clark and Lydia messing around in a forest/park area. After the first chorus, Lydia starts coughing hard and Clark runs over to try and help her.

The video shifts to Lydia, Clark, and friends hanging out around a fire pit. It then shifts to the pair in a home with Clark shaving Lydia’s head. She begins to get irate, throwing the towel and starting to fight Clark. The video flashes through several quick screens of the pair and then shifts to Alan with the banjo again. He closes out the song singing with just the banjo. The video ends with Lydia walking away from Clark at the fire pit and flashes to an image of her face.

If you thought “Funny Face” was emotional, that takes a backseat to the gut-wrenching punch “You Ominously Ends” lands. With lyrics in the chorus such as “When you tried to take your life

/We're just happy you survived/Confirmed you can't do nothing right/Like you couldn't even die/If you tried”, it drives home a hard and emotional message.

Ironically, with all the depressing lyrics, there is an upbeat tone to the musical instruments. Arm’s Length invests in the usage of a banjo in this song. While this is an instrument you don’t typically here in a metalcore/emo band, it works surprisingly well. While the message in the song is a heavy hitter, the banjo adds an uplifting element to the musicality of the song.

Arm’s Length will be hitting the road with Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Riley!, and bikeroutes to celebrate the release of the album. Tickets are on sale now here! The tour will start in Columbus Ohio on May 2 and conclude on May 25 in Buffalo, New York.

Arm’s Length have also announced a special set of shows to celebrate the release of the album. Tickets are on sale at the link above as well. The release shows will take place in June in Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto, Philadelphia, and finally New York City.

With the album two months out and the video displaying Part II of III, there will likely be another music video and song to hold fans over until the release of the album. I can’t wait to see what Arm’s Length has in store for us!
