The Pure Noise Records roster continues to grow! Arm’s Length is the latest band to sign with the label, growing their All Star listings.
With this announcement, Arm’s Length has also announced their second record ‘There’s a Whole World Out There’ will be coming out on May 16th. Pure Noise Records will obviously be producing it. On top of this announcement, the first single, “Funny Face” is available to listen to now. There is also a music video available now.
“‘Funny Face’ is about how discouragement from a trusted loved one can shape who you are as a person and your overall outlook on life,” says lyricist/vocalist and guitarist Allen Steinberg. “It’s one of our darkest, heaviest tracks. Lyrically, I wanted to illustrate the narrative of being entangled in a toxic codependent relationship, whether romantic or familial. It’s a straightforward, desperate sounding song, sonically and lyrically.”
The video opens with an older gentleman playing the piano. Across the screen it reads “Funny Face: Chapter I of III”. There are likely two other singles to follow this one, which would make sense based on how most bands release singles nowadays. The man continues walking until he reaches the kitchen, sitting down and staring at a photo album. The images show a younger version of the old man sitting before us, reflecting on his past experiences.

The video begins to alternate between showing Arm’s Length performing the song and the older man from before, now the younger version of himself, attending a local show. As the song progresses, you see the man watching a woman performing, who was also show in the photo album. The man finds himself on the receiving end of a foot to the face in the mosh pit (we’ve all been there). The show ends and the woman performing helps clean him up. As the video ends, you see her spitting blood in the bathroom and taking pills. The video closes with her punching the mirror.
This is clearly going to be a part two to the video. They can’t end on a cliffhanger like that! It’s really interesting to see how Arm’s Length tells a story through both the media of their music and their video. Fans should be on the edge of their seats waiting for the next single and video. I know I sure am. I am curious to see how it will all connect.
The song itself is quintessential Arm’s Length. It infuses their emotional storytelling with strong instrumentals that help pack that punch.
The four piece from Ontario just finished supporting Silverstein on their U.S. 25 Years of Noise Tour. They just announced a U.S. headliner to celebrate the release of the album. Supporting them will be Prince Daddy & the Hyenas, Bike Routes, and Riley!. The tour starts in Columbus, Ohio on May 2nd and will conclude on May 25th in Buffalo, New York.
