International Women's Day 2025; I am finally ready to share the most devastating part of my career.
“For two years, I was in a band, developed an abusive relationship with the leader, and left at the start of 2024. And I still can’t believe that I’m on the other side.”
Who Is Misstiq?
For those of you who don ’t know Misstiq; she is an Australian Music Producer from Melbourne, Instagram Personnel, Content Creator and Popular Social Media Personality.
Misstiq has an impressive catalogue of success under her belt and a career some would die for, working alongside some of the scenes greatest; Bring Me The Horizon, The Amity Affliction, Patient sixty-seven and many more. While her success is nothing short of monumental there is more than what meets the eye or is published online.
As Melbourne’s metalcore legends Earth Caller geared up for their insane tour with Aviana, Cabal, and Apate in 2023, some would say it was the heights Earth Caller deserved.
The band gained momentum off their latest EP Renormalization! However, despite the highs of reaching such success and the excitement portrayed online, Misstiq recently came out exposing that it wasn't all glitz and glamor.
In honour of International Women’s Day Misstiq took to social media bringing her story to light and breathing awareness into fruition sparking conversations of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse. “Sometimes we find ourselves trapped in situations that we intuitively know we should get out of, but end up staying longer than we should.” - Misstiq wrote before delving deeper into her experience in the band, elaborating the internal tug and pull as she was left most nights feeling completely helpless and worthless. As the former member of Earth Caller recalls the traumatic and tragic events to expose the ugly truth of her former band’s lead, Misstiq showcases the strength and growth that followed her leaving the band at the start of 2024.
“I continued embracing the good days and posted fun tour moments for you all to see. But I couldn’t even recognise myself anymore.” - Misstiq wrote before continuing on to say,
“I was stuck in a cycle of ups and downs. Good days > his dark side > bad days > apologies/gifts > repeat. I became addicted to the feeling of ‘starting fresh’ after abusive moments because I loved that strong sense of hope of ‘that was the last time’, which it never was.” Misstiq’s former members Mikayla, Clinch, Renj and Nick posted to their socials shortly after sharing to their stories “Effective immediately they were no longer apart of Earth Caller.”, along with a brief statement which read “We do not condone sexual assualt in any way shape or form. We are deeply apologetic for the hurt that was caused, and we believe and stand with victims of SA.” Since the post was made on Saturday, Misstiq has received an abundance of love and support from fellow artists in the scene, fans and friends on her socials. Alongside the support Lunegroove also released a statement on their socials - “Effective immediately we are withdrawing from Earth Caller’s ‘venom’ launch on March 21st. We do not condone abuse of any kind, and we stand with victims.”
Misstiq’s story is sadly not the only one of its kind, women and men are subjected to this kind of abuse a lot more frequently than it’s reported. If you want to read in depth what Misstiq had to say, you can find it on her Instagram @misstiq.wav.
“Once I realised I wasn't living for myself anymore, and that his behaviour was never going to change, I knew I had to leave. It can be hard leaving, but it's harder to stay and lose yourself in a toxic environment. Choose your hard.”
