British metalcore band Shields released their newest single “Kill” via Long Branch Records. It is the band’s third single to release this year, followed by “Abuser” and “Red & Green”. Stream the track HERE.
The raw, emotional track smoothly combines metalcore and rap, resulting in a catchy, genre-defying song.
"Pushing the boundaries of our band's sonic identity was a huge part of writing 'Kill,'" says singer Joe Edwards. "We experimented with different editing styles — including rapping, a genre I have immense respect for since my brother introduced it to me at a young age. Most of the lyrics in this song were taken from a poem written by my late brother, which binds me to this track intimately. My brother battled addiction for much of his life, and he wrote this poem during his withdrawals."

The new single is part of the band’s comeback after a long hiatus. After the release of their 2018 album Life in Exile, the sudden passing of their guitarist George Christie led the group to disband. Seven years later, Shields is leading into a new era with a new, matured sound. Founding members Joe Edwards and Samuel Kubrick Finney are now joined by drummer Alastair Wain and bassist Krishan Pujara.
