The dynamic Sara Taylor and Ryan George, also known as Youth Code, have announced their upcoming album 'Yours, With Malice', which is set to release on May 16, 2025. This will mark their first album in four years.
The album also features its lead single 'No Consequence', which has been released today with an incredible performance video from Stephen Lentini. 'No Consequence' will serve as the flagship single, leading the charge like a tank ready to destroy everything in its pathway. Furthermore, it's garnished with a mix from Sanford Parker, whose signature sound provides all blends with the necessary direction, incorporating ideas that bind the songs together and attract the listeners attention and ensure that they keep pressing replay. It’s powerful mix rests the groundwork that the listening experience is built upon, illuminating my ears with this sonic beauty, breathing life into the melody and keeping it locked to repeat.
After all, life does hit the hardest in the end, and this set of brawls around the release of ‘Yours, With Malice’ encouraged deep contemplation on identity, perception, self achievement, future steps and forced Youth Code to consider.
"I think a lot of people’s stories during the pandemic were self-reflective, but the ironic thing is we were already in a state of reemergence and re-imagination of self before the rest of the world was forced to do it,” shares Ryan George. “ We started to take time and workshop and demo vocals on some of the material we had. Not that we ever stop writing, we are sitting on a mountain of tracks that we can always rework and tweak. With no deadlines surrounding us, no haste to get the material out, all of a sudden the partnership with Sumerian showed up. That kind of lit a spark and came us to where we are now.”
After mulling over Youth Code's self-concept for the last few years, it's clear that Yours, With Malice is their bloodiest, most intricate, and best-crafted release to date as well as their first under Sumerian Records.
Sumerian Vice President Julien O'Neill adds: “‘Youth Code’ have long been a commanding voice in both electronic and heavy music, and we are beyond thrilled to welcome them to Sumerian Records with the announcement of ‘Yours, With Malice.’ We believe this marks a powerful new chapter in their already illustrious career, and we’re excited for what the future holds for both new and longtime fans.”
Although some of the sounds and references on Yours.. include classic 90s influences like Nine Inch Nails’ Broken/Fixed duality and a boundless The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste-era Ministry, Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire, and Portion Control, those sounds’ core attack has not changed much for the duo based in Los Angeles.
If Youth Code’s music serves as a sketchy, graffiti-covered yellowing passenger van enticing unsuspecting listeners, the potentiated melodies on Yours… are the outstretched hand luring growing legions with the promise of infinite sugary rewards.
Sara Taylor said, "I've always felt somewhat insecure in my voice, but I started exploring more melodic vocals on our record ‘A Skeleton Key in the Doors of Depression’ (2021) collab with King Yosef. Meanwhile, Eartha Kitt had a gravelly voice and she was the epitome of a vocalist that ably captured attention, she understood the song and how to make the most of it with what she had.”
What changed is the detail-orientated execution in Youth Code’s writing, something that can only stem from years of experience spent honing their craft, in this case over a decade. This group was formed in 2012 when partners George and Taylor decided to fuse their love for classic New Order, Depeche Mode, and the hardcore punk they grew up listening to.
It has now resulted in a demo cassette that led to a 7” release on Angry Love, the first band not part of Psychic TV to be released on that label.
This was quickly followed by a self-titled album, 2014’s A Place to Stand EP, as well as 2016’s Commitment to Complications LP. All of this was achieved while touring with an eclectic mix including Chelsea Wolfe, Skinny Puppy, and HEALTH, alongside arena performances with My Chemical Romance and main stage slots for Nine Inch Nails. An overwhelming amount of press praise came during this period until the pandemic hit, and now in 2025, Youth Code return with what is regarded as their magnum opus.
