Rising artist Alemeda has released her latest single, “Beat A B!tch Up,”featuring Doechii of Top Dawg Entertainment. Written entirely by the two performers, the collaboration delivers an unflinching exploration of loyalty and devotion, examining how love and protection can blur into aggression and confrontation.
“‘Beat A B!tch Up’ is about caring so deeply for someone that you’d do anything for them, even if they wouldn’t do the same for you,” Alemeda explains. “The title isn’t literal—it’s about how far I’d go to show up for people, even when it hurts me.”
The official music video, directed by Omar Jones (Doechii & JT – Alter Ego), was filmed in San Pedro Harbor and depicts Alemeda and Doechii running the show aboard a ship with an all-female band. The visual reinforces the single’s themes of female empowerment and control, portraying a world where women hold authority and strength.
“Filming the video was such an incredible experience,” Alemeda says. “I’d never been on a jet ski before—I was nervous because I can’t swim—but I wanted to push myself for the best shots possible. We even had a trained cat on set, which I requested. Doechii looked stunning and brought incredible energy—she gave me amazing direction. I’m obsessed with the firework scene.”
“Beat A B!tch Up” appears on Alemeda’s forthcoming project, But What the Hell Do I Know, set for release November 7 via Top Dawg Entertainment/Warner Records. The EP combines elements of pop, rock, and punk with introspective lyrics and experimental production. Drawing from her experience growing up as the eldest daughter in an East African family split between Ethiopia and Arizona, Alemeda reflects on identity, loyalty, and self-discovery through her work. Collaborations with Doechii and Rachel Chinouriri further expand the project’s dynamic range.

Alemeda continues to solidify her position as one of alternative pop’s most versatile voices. Her 2021 single “Gonna Bleach My Eyebrows” has surpassed 14 million streams, and her 2024 debut EP FK IT showcased her fusion of rock, lo-fi indie, and unapologetic storytelling. Having supported Halsey and Rachel Chinouriri on tour, Alemeda has drawn praise for her authentic voice and genre-bending sound. As Complex noted, “As a Black woman who proudly embraces alternative sensibilities, she’s challenging stereotypes and creating space for more diverse representations in rock and alternative music… Alemeda is a rock star on the rise.”
