A new favorite band of mine is Windwaker out of Australia. After completing their US tour under Northlane, the band is poised to return with another Australian powerhouse: Make Them Suffer. The band released their first album with new singer Liam Guinane and after seeing them on the Mirror’s Edge Tour he’s an obvious fit. “Hyperviolence” came out July 12th, 2024 and I find to be a great representation of modern metalcore. I recently got in an argument with someone over the need for so many genre classifications in metal. This album is a prime example because, in my opinion, it’s pretty difficult to classify. Guinane has proven to be an extremely versatile vocalist showcasing his dirty, clean, and rap vocals. Producer and drummer Chris Lalic incorporates creative sounds and synths along with crunchy guitar lines. An aspect that sets the band apart from others, is keyboardist Connor Robins performs the synthesizing live.
Following the release of the album the band announced the deluxe version of “Hyperviolence” along with a new single “Apathy”, an unbelievably catchy metalcore tune. Take a listen and be prepared to have it stuck in your head for days after. Catch them on Tour with Make Them Suffer on the dates below.
