South Carolina based metal band Your Spirit Dies just released their first full length album, My Gnawing Pains Will Never Rest. To celebrate, they have also released their last single on the album, “Born Forsaken” and a music video to accompany it. You can watch the video and check out the track here.
The music video is relatively the same throughout. The band is playing in front of a brick wall, seemingly in a warehouse setting. As the band plays the song, each member of the band is given a close up, showcasing their talent. Throughout the video, red and green lights flash across the band members. Shadows play across the walls at some points, such as a nuclear explosion in the beginning and palm trees shown in the bridge; a very vast contrast here, but it works well with the meaning behind the song.
Regarding the meaning of the song, vocalist Brandon Byars states, "'Born Forsaken' is about how mankind has been killing the earth for generations and the ones who are living now are facing those consequences. Essentially, it’s a realization that it may be too late to change the outcome. By the end of the song, it’s an interesting combination of ‘becoming at peace’ with knowing the death of the planet is inevitable before it descends into one of the most destructive sections on the record, kinda sonically representing the end of the world."

With just under 12 thousand monthly listeners, with this new album, Your Spirit Dies is sure to take over the metal scene. With heavy riffs and excellent song writing, Your Spirit Dies will be your next favorite metal band. If you like what you heard from the single, just wait, the entire album gets so much better. There is not a single song that is a skip. There is truly just banger after banger on this album.
Your Spirit Dies is currently on tour opening for the Acacia Strain. Check out whether or not they will be hitting a city near you on the remaining dates here!
