What Lies Below have been a smaller name in the metalcore genre, but fans of the genre should be very familiar with them soon. After releasing a single earlier this year, “The Silence We Keep”, it was clear that the band is in their next era following their debut album Darker Colors, which was released last year. Now, phase two of their new era has been released. On August 29th, the band dropped their second single, “Void Alone”.
When asked about the new single, vocalist Andrew Watson stated, “Void Alone is a song about the emotional and mental toll of being in a toxic relationship. It explores how such a connection can slowly wear down a person’s sense of self, leaving behind confusion, exhaustion, and emotional scars. The song dives deep into the mindset of someone trapped in that cycle. It’s an honest look at how love can turn into control, and how finding clarity becomes a painful but necessary step toward healing.”
This song starts off with softer vocals and then 15 seconds in, it begins to pack a punch. It feels like a standard metalcore song, with the harsh vocals in the verses and then clean singing in the chorus, but it doesn’t feel formulaic. If you are a fan of the genre, you are going to want to check out What Lies Below now before they blow up. With the track they are on now, it is for sure going to happen. Their music is incredible and they deserve more notoriety in the scene.
What Lies Below will be embarking on a headliner throughout the United States in October. They will be bringing several different bands with them, but not all of them will be on all the dates. Joining them on this tour will be Glasswaves, softspoken, A Sense of Purpose, and Summer Hoop. Glasswaves will be on from October 10th to 18th, softspoken from October 10th to 12th, A Sense of Purpose from October 17th to the 26th and finally Summer Hoop will tour with them from October 19th to October 21st.
