Waterparks has been on a roll with new releases. After freeing themselves from the confines of genres and following a storyline or concept, the alt-pop trio from Houston, Texas dropped the emotional, bittersweet track, ANY MINUTE NOW. Stream the single here.
ANY MINUTE NOW is a complete switch up from the blunt, tongue-in-cheek track that was released before, IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL. ANY MINUTE NOW speaks the words everyone related to at some point in life. Frontman Awsten Knight posted the meaning behind the song on Instagram the day before the release.
Knight states:
"ANY MINUTE NOW is about the uncertainty of growing up.
When you’re a kid, everything feels so confusing and overwhelming, but you think “when I’m older I’ll understand all of this.”
Then you’re a teenager and you’re like, “this is all bullshit, but everything will make sense when I’m an adult, the rest of this will get figured out.”
Then you become an adult and you’re like, “Fuck, because I know to have even more questions now, things make even less sense.”
When you’re younger, it’s easy to look to people who have lived longer than you for a guiding light or a North Star to follow, but the comfort comes from learning that you’re not as far behind everyone else as it may feel sometimes. Even if it seems like people have their lives together, most are just out here doing their best, taking it one day at a time.
I think the idea is that even though you’re smarter than to assume anyone has all the answers, for some reason you, and everyone else continues looking for perfect resolution, validation, success, everything, waiting patiently saying “this will all make sense… any minute now.”

The song is reminiscent of the band’s second EP, Black Light, but with more complex production, with the addition of extra synths and strings. The lyrics are delivered in such a bittersweet way. Knight’s voice drips with a bittersweet yearning for things to make sense, even though the words themselves express that nothing will ever fully make sense.
But still, Knight sings with a hopefulness that builds throughout each verse, chorus and bridge, then finally reaches an all time high in the final chorus. The guitars, courtesy of Geoff Wingington go from acoustic and soft to loud and distorted. To add on, drummer Otto Wood brings in fuller beats so the chorus could build to dramatic levels.
The whole song sounds like the final montage in a coming of age movie. One where the protagonist has finally made peace with the uncertainty and worries that have come with growing up, and, in 3 short minutes, watches their life go by. No matter what age you are, there’s a strong chance that you’ll at the very least be moved by ANY MINUTE NOW.
